Overall Rating: 9 / 10 (Excellent)
TransUnion, one of the three major U.S. credit bureaus collecting information on over one billion consumers around the world, offers reliable credit monitoring with fraud detection and up to one million dollars in identity theft insurance. The company, which enjoys a fairly positive reputation and offers prices that are on par with industry standards, boasts a solid line of credit management services and innovative fraud solutions for both businesses and individuals. People considering TransUnion’s subscription-based services should be aware the company only updates their credit reports every 30 days and use the VantageScore model instead of the industry-standard FICO Score.
Credit Score & Reports
Credit Score & Reports - 7.5 / 10
TransUnion offers credit monitoring with unlimited TransUnion credit scores and three-bureau credit reports. Though they charge a $1 fee for their reports, they will automatically enroll customers in a credit monitoring program for which they are charged full price after the initial seven-day trial period. TransUnion also uses the VantageScore 3.0 model, which provides results directly from the three national credit reporting companies and differs significantly from the FICO score 8 model that most lenders prefer.

With identity, high-risk, and synthetic fraud monitoring, TransUnion offers all the tools and solutions needed to detect fraud faster and with greater accuracy. The company notifies customers of suspect identities, unusual behavior patterns, and even if lenders request access to their reports, which provides an additional layer of security to help protect sensitive data. Just as other, similar credit reporting companies, TransUnion also offers historical score tracking with useful visuals to help customers better understand their credit and the factors that affect it, as well as identity-theft insurance of up to $1 million for those who enroll in their credit monitoring services.

TransUnion Plans & Pricing
Plans and Pricing - 8.5 / 10
TransUnion charges a $1 fee for a 7-day trial of their subscription-based credit monitoring service, clarifying in smaller print that clients will be billed a discounted price of $17.95 for each subsequent month of service. They also extend a 30-day trial for $4.95, which includes three-bureau credit scores and monitoring, a number that later increases to the standard monthly price of $19.95, plus applicable taxes. Although pleasing to the eye, the TransUnion website is not as easy to navigate as it seems and clients may have better luck obtaining product details and pricing through a general web search. To avoid future complications, potential customers are also advised to read the small print and thoroughly revise the company’s cancellation policy before enrolling in any of their services.
