Don't be fooled, the only reason Smartstop has 5 star reviews is because they hassle you into it at the counter when you first start. The rest of my experience has been an absolute nightmare. I got a unit a few years ago to help family with a move. My rate in those days was around $180 per month. Over the last couple years they have progressively jacked my rates to over $380 per month! This is pure extortion and they know they can get away with it. Lots of people who use these units aren't in a great financial position. If considering Smart Stop in the Houston area. Beware that they raise rentals every 6 months. They do not stand behind their word to hold rates by reneging on their agreements. This company is unethical. My advice to anyone considering renting space is to avoid Smart Stop at all costs. I gave it a 1 star. If there was a zero star option, that is what I would have chosen. Been a customer for years and with the new owners, it has gone from a 10 to a 0. Now it's all about fees for them when everyone is dealing with COVID. It is the worst of the worst in terms of taking advantage of people. Horrible place. Everything is a fee (and not just an understandable late fee). This place makes Bank of America look like Girl Scouts. I have not seen a company TAKE ADVANTAGE of COVID-19 like this. Seriously. Who texts you from a SPAM number and then when you reply it says "Sorry, we are not able to receive messages on this line." and then they charge another FEE. Scam. Overpriced. Thieves.

It was for safety reason, I vacant my storage. Tenants with children or minor who have to bring their children to visit their storage after sunset should read this review. Finally, I moved my stuff from SmartStop Storage in 1571 W Foothill Blvd, Upland. The reason I vacant my storage and moved them to another storage because of safety issues from the incident that I experienced in the storage and the way the management handle it. I and my son (12 years old) visited my storage on Saturday at 8.30PM (PST) and spent 30 minutes in my storage. My storage located at B103 that close to the Foothill Blvd road. Cannot say enough about the staff at this store. From the day I opened my account they have been outstanding!!! Today Pete was employee of the month with his help. You can be proud of this team!!!
