Pumpkin is a relatively new player in the pet insurance marketplace. Due to its breadth of coverage, the company deserves a serious look from pet lovers who are looking to insure their furry friends. Pumpkin also gets points for having a really fun, engaging website. Pumpkin isn't yet rated by the BBB or Trust Pilot. We encourage Pumpkin customers to help remedy this information deficit and leave comments about the company on our site and other consumer review forums. We can say, however, that the company's policies are underwritten by the United States Fire Insurance Company, a firm of considerable financial strength and longevity. The firm receives an A rating from AM Best and an A- rating from Standard & Poor's. Pumpkin's underwriter's financial stability should give pet lovers confidence in Pumpkin's ability to pay claims. The company's premiums are in line with industry standards. Dog owners can choose either a $10,000, $20,000, or unlimited annual cap and cat owners may select either a $7,000, $15,000, or unlimited limit. The company recently added these higher cap options. We all hope never to have vet bills even approaching that limit, but by raising coverage limits Pumpkin makes it more likely customers will have sufficient coverage to manage more catastrophic illnesses and accidents. Pumpkin has made quite a few upgrades to its service in the last couple of months. Most importantly they now offer policies for cats. The company has also added an online claims portal and direct deposit of settlement funds for greater convenience.

Pumpkin offers an optional wellness/preventive care plan for dogs, cats, and puppies. Some preventive care plans we've reviewed don't add a lot of financial value when compared with paying for routine services yourself. But they may offer a little more peace of mind for some customers. Pumpkin’s preventive plan, called Preventive Essentials, covers three main things, all 100% reimbursed by the plan: one annual wellness exam, annual vaccines (4 for puppies, 2 for dogs, and 1 for cats), and annual lab tests to detect diseases early on. One blood test and one fecal test for dogs, and one fecal test for both cats and puppies are covered under Pumpkin's wellness plan. Although Pumpkin does not have a dedicated mobile app, claims may be submitted electronically through the company's online portal, which you can access by using your mobile phone browser. Alternatively, claim forms can be downloaded from the company's website, filled out electronically, and emailed (along with invoice copies) to the company.

Liars and cheats. They denied one of my claims after one of their agents told me that any treatment for trauma to a tooth was covered. Then, they refuse to refund me after I requested to cancel my policy. They LIED to me and told me I never requested to cancel because they ‘listened to the phone recording and didn’t hear that said’. Absolutely unbelievable. I remember 100% saying that I wanted my policy canceled because the dentals were the only reason I got the insurance.

This company is an absolute sham. They lied to me on multiple occasions and then refused to refund me after I tried several times to cancel my policy. They are like every other insurance company, confusing, greedy and dishonest.

Pumpkin turns down everything, claiming it's a "prior illness" or "pre-existing condition" whether it is or not. They go to any lengths to avoid paying. Over 40 years I've dealt with more than a dozen different oet insurance agencies. They all have their problems, but this one is the worst.

BUYER BEWARE! Pumpkin is nothing but a logo and a website. I insured two cats at a very high premium price ($176/month). I drank their marketing Kool-aid instead of going with a proven company. So that's my fault. I submitted claims at the beginning of November for one cat. I received nothing except the same auto-generated email for WEEKS. When I called over a month later, the customer service rep investigated and told me that my claims were being sent for "audit" on December 16th. I was told that the audit process would take between 30-45 days. Called again in January: "we're waiting on medical records" (which had already been emailed in November.) Because I had to... Does your policy cover rehabilitation in hospital after orthopedic surgery? What is your short history of rate increases and for what?

This morning, I purchased a Pumpkin insurance policy and the optional wellness/preventive care plan for my one-year-old cat, Missy. A lot of questions came to mind, because I wasn't certain that I'd understood correctly what I had read online. So, this afternoon I called the company. The representative was very patient and helpful. I frequently get afflicted with "buyer's remorse" after I purchase something. Not so in my Pumpkin purchase today. The coverage gives you good value for the money, not to mention peace of mind. Sure, I could have purchased other policies from other companies for less. However, if Missy should get sick or injured, the most likely event is I'd end up ultimately... Read More

I've had pet insurance for the last ten or so years but have never really been satisfied as I felt like most companies I dealt with always found a convenient way to avoid paying for a claim or pay at much less than expected. Based on the great reviews , I decided to try Pumpkin. I like their easy to use platform and the online claim capabilities. One of my dogs went in for routine neuter (not covered but suffered a complication which required a very expensive surgery. I submitted the claim to Pumpkin and got a response right away that they were looking into it, they updated me a week later stating they were still verifying detail but wanted me to know the status. Today I got an... Read More

Horrible experience. I am currently fighting for them to pay for an injury that all of my doctors (I had 3 doctors) agree it was from an acute injury. My puppy (8 months) couldn't walk for two weeks. Her leg was swollen and she was in so much pain. Now Pumpkin is claiming it was from allergies? Even though all of my doctors disagree. I pay $70 a month for this "service." PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY DO NOT GET PUMPKIN.

Im looking over the sample policy and you wont even cover a basic ultasound? Your policy coverage reads "e. MRI, CT scans and x-rays" why wouldnt you cover a ultrasound which is cheaper than MRI and CT???, doesnt make any sense? A ultrasound doesnt emit radation so its safer too for your dog???? Is this a scam or am i missing something? Then when i posted this on facebook instead if answering it they deleted my comment! What are they trying to hide???

Pumpkin health care will harass you forever if you don’t choose them. They cannot take no for an answer and their prices are absurd. You would be wise to choose any other per healthcare company. Pumpkin is rotten insurance.

Rates and coverage much better than our current policy with Healthy Paws. Never had a claim with Healthy Paws and hope we never have a claim with Pumpkin.

My cat was, yes, I said was,16 yrs old, going on 17 in June of 2021. Since I have been shopping around for pet insurance, I came upon Pumpkin Pet Ins., filled out the questionnaire, and they suggested a $7000 insurance policy back in January 2021. I saw the premium amount, but I wanted to see the difference if I went for the higher insurance amount of $15,000. There really wasn't that much difference in the monthly premium price, and so, I applied for the $15K policy. They accepted, and I began paying the monthly premium of $138 per month. In the meantime, my debit card became compromised, and I had to change it. I actually forgot to change the number on Pumpkin and by the time I realized... Read More

Pumpkin only offers a monthly billing option and adds a $2 service fee per month. I questioned this with the Pumpkin staff and was told that's all they offer. Their policy contract explicitly states in the declaration pages and in the Conditions that the policy can be paid annually to avoid these monthly transaction fees. In CA, a service fee is not allowed if it's the only option for payment. The Pumpkin staff indicated that's all they offered since 2019 but said that they were "thinking about it". As this is explicitly stated in the policy and is not true, I began to question what else in their policy conditions and coverage might not be true? If I can't trust that the policy... Read More
