Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

This is not the company I originally signed up with. That company charged a reasonable rate and paid on claims that made it worthwhile to get pet insurance. Not anymore. After I lost 3 cats to cancer, thyroid, and kidney conditions prior to my current cats, I thought that insurance made sense to help pay the bills. However, the way this company now operates is just plain wrong. It's robbery. It's insensitive. Don't do it. My advice: Read the fine print with any insurance company. And don't expect that what you buy today will stay the same. In this case, it surely didn't. And now my cats are older and have pre-existing conditions, so I can't switch. My choice is to keep paying this... Read More

Do not use this company! They are the worst and have no interest in your pets health. We had our plan changed on us to increase our annual fee and also increase our deductible from $200 to $500. All of this was done behind our backs without telling us. We only found out after a $1000 surgery where we only got $90 of coverage. Please, Please, Please do not use this company to insure your pets. We spent so much money to protect our dog to only get pennies back. After speaking with customer service several times, we were told a letter was mailed to inform us of the change and if we didn't receive it (which we didn't), an "assumption" was made which resulted in an increased in fees and raise... Pet Plan policy owner for six years without a single claim. A month ago Pet Plan jacked my premium up 500% and auto billed me without notice and then dumped my dog policy. Pet Plan just decided to hit me with over $250.00 bill and then cancel the policy. When I called them I was told they didn't have to inform me of the 500% hit job and new underwriters have taken over and decided they didn't want to insure my 12 year old dog anymore despite her good health. The Pet Plan consultant on the line was embarrassed and said she felt terrible but that Pet Plan management is dumping policies they might have to pay out on. So buyer beware of Pet Plan!

DONT EVER THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!! RUN!!!! RUN AWAY FROM THEM BEFORE THEY TOOK YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!! If your pet had ever got into any issues before you purchase this insurance, you are never going to be covered. If you think your pet's emergency situation is getting covered by the insurance, you are totally wrong!!! You will be ending up paying every single penny of the emergency situation AND the expensive policy fee. They will use EVERY POSSIBLE DETAIL of your previous record to deny your claims, no matter how they are actually unrelated. I strongly suspect that their people are not qualified for any diagnoses. They will always come up with a conclusion benefit to them so... Read More

I HAD PetPlan for several years. I WAS happy with them. They were BOUGHT by another company who REDUCED COVERAGE and INCREASED PREMIUMS. I am in the process of TERMINATING my coverage. Before all this happened I was very happy with their customer service.

I rate this company zero stars. We've had coverage for two years since buying a breeder puppy. Have had over $5,000 in vets bills for various conditions, and all claims have been denied. Other owners with similar claims with other insurers have had claims paid. Thos company has been a sham for us

They are horrible liars!! I bought this "protection" 2 years ago for my Yorkie and was promised by Mike that she would be covered for all congenital issues. Guess what $15,000.00 dollars later and the death of my beloved little Doodles they paid NOTHING. Dont but this dont belive them they are HORRIBLE

We got an 8 week old puppy thinking that surely if we got PetPlan from the start, we would be solid. Nope. Nope. Nope! Puppy got giardia (which causes diarrhea) in the first 14 days. So now, anything even remotely related to diarrhea is not covered. That includes weird seizures. That includes when he doesn't feel good for any reason and has diarrhea. So what is covered then? Maybe a broken bone? We appealed twice already and each time they deny our claims. Thousands of dollars of claims completely unrelated to giardia or diarrhea yet they find a way to "tie it to" the "preexisting" conditions -- even seizures!? Cancelling this crap and going with another provider. Oh, and another thing,... Read More

If you start the policy before taking control of the animal and it gets sick they consider it a preexisting condition also if your pet has an accident that too will be considered a preexisting condition. If you value your pet choose another provider. The deductible is not broke down into a percent of a claim so when my bill was $400 they took the whole $300 annual deductible from that claim leaving only $100 reimbursement.

So, I have had pet plan for my dog, Bella for over 2 years now, I decided to get it for her after she ate a bone off the street and we needed to get her X-rays and labs. so far no claims and all was well, then this last month my wife came home with a kitten "little" we call him. I put insurance on him immediately because I am a proactive type of guy. Well you guessed it, the worst happened and the next day we came home to find him clinging to life, vomit and diarrhea all over, scooped him up and rushed him to VERG animal hospital in Brooklyn, who is AMAZING BTW. 6100.00 later Little is alive and well, well 6100 you say, heck you had insurance right? WRONG, denied the claim stating some BS... Read More

I purchased Pet Plan insurance for my healthy dog after his younger brother racked up tens of thousands of dollars in vet bills. I thought I was purchasing peace of mind that if my older dog ever became sick it wouldn't be as financially devastating. My older dog ended getting sick well after the waiting period and Pet Plan said he had a pre-existing condition. They've never been able to say what the condition actually is, but they will not cover anything for my senior dog unless he get's into an accident. My vet has written a letter and explained how this is simply not true. Pet Plan has denied every claim even though my dog never had a diagnosed or treated pre-existing... Read More

DO NOT USE! We bought into Petplan for our dog Jax who is a boxer/great dane mix. Once we actually had an issue and submitted our claim for his allergy specialist, it fell under an exclusion. The appointment alone cost us over $500 and the actual testing cost us upwards of $600. Turns out there is a loop hole and an exclusion for just about any condition. On the phone they said even without a previous diagnosis (or knowledge of what the problem is), they can attach those symptoms to a "pre existing condition" makes absolutely no sense. Complete fraud, i'm not sure how they get away with this. Feel like i've been taken advantage of and cancelled my plan. Don't get caught up in the... Read More

We are cancelling our policy. We have been with Pet Plan for 5 years they were a godsend in the beginning...I had 4 dogs with Pet Plan. When we first signed up the rates we good and the 80% payout worked well for us, however about 3 years ago they switched underwriters and inflated our rate and kept switching underwriters again every year. I removed 2 of my dogs off the policy but was going to keep my other two 3 year old dogs on Pet Plan due to the fact they both had one TPLO surgery last year and Pet Plan would cover the second one if the second surgery was at least one year later. We just received a letter stating the policies were up for renewal inMarch. Our original policy was... Read More

ZERO STARS. This company SUCKS. I signed up for them 8 years ago and it was a FANTASTIC company to work with. Now all they care about is money. They changed under writers and my ANNUAL deductible was changed to a PER CONDITION deductible ($500 to be met with each condition) without even asking me if that was what I wanted . They did not explain this. I even called to find out what the differences were and they NEVER mentioned that it had changed from annual to per condition. They are sneaky and underhanded and as soon as I am able I will be DROPPING their coverage. I fork out over 3k for 4 dogs every year, and that is just for the premiums. When I asked if I could change it to... Read More

If I could give this company 0 stars, I would. We purchased a plan for a 13 year old beagle and the company was more than willing to cover her since she had not reached their age limit. She has a few health issues that we knew would never be covered (and we wouldn't expect them to be), which included atypical Cushings, polyarthritis, and a back issue. However, we wanted to purchase the plan just to ensure she would be covered in the event that she was diagnosed with an unrelated condition like cancer. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with TCC about a month after the plan went into place. Our vets were confident that this would not be a pre-existing condition, since she had never shown... Do not use this company. They pay for nothing! Since I took out the policy 5yrs ago I've collected a total of $16.50 from them for a medication once for my dog. I'm done! Cancelling! The per-condition deductible makes it possible for them to never make a payout unless your pet has a major illness and even then they will find a way to get out of paying! This is not the same coverage I got when I first signed up and after research I've found a lot better plans out there.

Buyer BEWARE! PetPlan has a unique way of interpreting “pre-existing” conditions and how they apply a deductible! They decide a mention something is a “clinical sign”, implying disease, even though normal healthy dogs might have that sign (E.g light tartar on teeth), and even though it is NOT a disease and does NOT necessarily cause disease at the time. Rather than saying a clinical sign is a sign of a medical condition, they say it is a “change in your pet’s normal healthy state”, so they can decide whatever they want as a “sign”. My dog did have mild tartar on her teeth above the gumline before I got the policy, but the vet did not see any indication of disease, and did not... Read More

I am giving this plan a poor rating because they have changed their underwriters and therefore changed their plans. We had $100 per year deductible with 90% reimbursement up to $20,000 of coverage. It cost $350 a year for a 4 year mixed breed spayed female. Now the want $450 a year with a $300 a year deductible. That means $750 before receiving reimbursement. We will not be renewing our policy.

We have been long-term customers with multiple pets, but found out today that they changed our pets deductible without our knowledge or permission. They claim to have sent a letter but we never got one, and now our recent claim that we had to send in will mostly be uncovered because they increased our deductible from $200 to $650 without our permission. They also decreased my discount from 15% which I had had for years, to 10%. This is a very deceptive, bait and switch way to run a business and we are looking for alternative providers now.

If I could give zero stars I would choose that option. I had this insurance for seven months and the first claim I submitted was for what was most likely a visit to the vet due to a stomach flu. It took them 74 days to process the claim and they denied the claim without notifying me. I had to call them to determine the status of the claim only to be told that the claims department decided my dog's visit was due to a pre-existing condition. A little over six months prior to my claim I had to take my dog to the vet, because of unexplained vomiting. The vet basically gave her something to calm her stomach and the symptoms went away a day later. Apparently because the symptoms were similar... Read More

I do not recommend this company. Despite the fact that I have had the insurance since approx. 2008 and have submitted only one claim for teeth cleaning. This company recently raised the rates on my dog by 22%! I have tried to obtain a reason for this increase which is far beyond increases I received for either my own property insurance or my own health insurance. I can only assume that they have done this "because they can". I find this astounding. The people I have spoken with like to say "I'm sorry you feel this way" - and they don't seem to understand the difference between "feelings" and "facts"...I plan to shop for a different company asap. I will not give them another penny given... Read More
