We have had the worst experience with this lender. My husband and I both had 800+ credit scores & are very meticulous with allowing anyone to pull our credit. We bought a business in January that is my husbands full income, so we asked initially if that would cause any problems for getting approved. We were told it would not. The business has been around for more than 50 years. After being pre-approved with this information, they did a hard inquiry on both our credits (as expected) and then told us we were not eligible for the refinance option because we could not use income from the business. One of the worst loan application experiences I have ever experienced! I’m a 61 year old man who owns two homes. A successful business for over 24 years. A credit score of over 840. I was first attracted to Better Mortgage because of the extremely low rate of 2.125 on a 20 year refi. Since I had been through the process before I had pretty much all the documentation ready. At first the process was extremely simple and request were normal. Once it came time to supply the business tax returns and income statements. Overall the process was not rapid, in my case. The Better team was disconnected from each other. It took multiple months - as we had a subordinate HeLoc to incorporate. You'd think they would do 'better' at prepping for that pay out. And reading other comments - they take longer than the 30 days referenced in their propaganda. I would recommend with the proviso that you need to stay on top of all the emails. And, any unfettered loans with one pay off could be smoother to process than mine. HOMEOWNERS BEWARE! *tldr*- Once you pay the inspection fee, they string you along till they have a reason to cancel your account! Better.com is one of the worst companies I have had the displeasure of working with! We tried to refinance our home at the start of October 2020. We happily supplied all the required documents when prompted to on their website. After paying the $500 for an appraisal on our house (btw the appraiser never showed up or walked in the house) all communication with actual people stopped. Don't waste your time with this company. Their process and site are good, but they don't know what they're doing. If you have a cookie cutter situation, you might be ok, but they have little to NO experience with anything outside there very narrow parameters.

The whole experience was terrible. I was passed around to whoever happened to answer the phone. The initial qualifier person -despite being told accurate income info and that I had just been turned down from another lender because rental income was not fully counted toward my income- reassured me that yes, I would get a refi loan with Better. I furnished EVERYTHING and they moved quickly to order an appraisal and have me pay $550 for appraisal. Then weeks later I was told they would not consider all my rental income so I couldn't qualify. Do not believe these FAKE positive reviews! We tried using these idiots. It's all 1099 employees! NONE are in the office. You call and the team of 15 or so people you're assigned to are either "in a meeting" or "at lunch" or "out sick". They do NOT work in their actual office. Oh yes, they're going to tell you they do, they LIE. Total liars. We both have almost 800 credit scores, FAR better than average. We wasted MONTHS with these fools. Every single piece of paper we sent, thru to their own website, where you could see it sitting there, they'd weeks later ask for AGAIN. Then AGAIN. It is very unfortunate that individuals that I presume are the support staff are better at handling potential consumers than the lender assigned to my application. That is the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1. I applied for a refinance and don't mind providing all the documents required, signing the necessary stuff (electronically), sending in the stool and blood sample essentially necessary for this process basically anywhere you go (I read some of the reviews below). However, what I do mind seems to be across the board with most lenders and should be made better with higher standards to be considered a reputable business. I am a realtor and have had two horrible experiences with this company. One was worse than the other, but please, buyers, use a local lender you can get a hold of. Better.com agents will ghost you and not return calls, not respond to emails, not follow through on closing dates etc.
