Reputation - 5 / 5

AIG holds average customer ratings on various independent consumer review sites. These ratings, however, are based on reports from AIG's entire base of 90 million customers--not just those from AIG Direct. As such, it's difficult to determine exactly how satisfied consumers are with AIG Direct and its life insurance offerings. It's an encouraging sign, however, that AIG Direct has responded to the complaints made to the Better Business Bureau and appears to be making efforts to address such complaints and, where warranted, to provide timely resolutions. This is something that many large companies simply don't do; in our view, AIG Direct is to be commended for its customer engagement.

If I could give a minus rating I would. It has been 9 months since my father passed away. Today is my father’s birthday and we are still yet to receive less than $3k in insurance. We have been told numerous of lies and the “check is in the mail”. We can’t even get a copy of the policy because it was lost due to a water damage problem. I’m told after 6 months that the request is still being reviewed. Don’t trust this company with your finally arrangements. You will only add to your family’s stress of your loss.

Stay away from AIG! My father passed away 7 months ago and I would submit negative stars if I could. I’ve called and the representatives have been less than helpful. I’ve emailed, faxed and spent $86.25 in overnight mail fees sending change of ownership forms and death certificates. I’ve followed directions to get life insurance policies that my father had on me switched over into my name and after 7 months I’m still waiting. I will be withdrawing these policies asap… no way will I ever recommend AIG. The absolute worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. I sat on the phone with them for another 2hrs today and I have to wait 3 more business days for a manager to call me so I can... Read More

I've been trying for months to get the claim paid for my husband's death. They keep saying they don't have a certified copy of the death certificate but I have sent it twice. My husband and I paid on these policies for 43 years and we just assumed they would honor the policies that they issued. Silly me - thinking they would do the honorable thing. I plan to see a lawyer to make them see things my way!

The previous page, says you insure people up to age 85, but it won't let me get a rate, because I am 76??

Terrible Claims Service. I have been trying to get the payout on my father's life insurance for months now and they keep saying the actual court stamped documentation for the Estate is not efficient. Their claims examiners need to go to law school or be taught that every jurisdiction paper work is different and it is not a one size fits all. In addition, to speak with a claims examiner that makes these determinations (again not a lawyer) you can't call until after 11:30 a.m. CT because that is when they actually start "work". Seriously? What type of business does not start work until 11:30 a.m. CT. And, you cannot get a direct line to the claims examiners and have to call the main... Read More

AIG is a SCAM. My rate for them below negative zero. They never provided me my policy contract and yet they keep on charging on my bank for almost a year.I tried to call customer service several times but to no avail. I called my bank to stop the payment.Look for a legit insurance company. AIG is a SCAM

Requested a rollover form (to transfer account out of AIG) multiple times over several weeks. Never received the form after numerous requests, multiple times confirming my address, confirming they sent the form, etc. Customer service representatives are either liars or incompetent. Not a good sign if you want these people to be responsible for your financial well being. Terrible service and terrible firm. Now I have to resort to putting request in writing (for a simple form), documenting people I spoke with on phone, creating a paper trail (all for a simple form). You've been warned!

Do not deal with AIG!!. On Jan 31, my wife and I - both seniors - were informed that our Asian cruise was changing course, so we purchased a flight back to Canada via EVA and just to be safe, we spend an additional $140 for cancellation insurance from AIG through Expedia Singapore. When our cruise line again changed the date of disembarkation due to the COVID 19, I immediately cancelled our EVA flight on Feb 1st, (one day after booking the flight). One would think that with the protection of "cancellation insurance", it should be no problem getting back the $600 that EVA did not reimburse us for. Not with this ripoff insurance company - AIG refused to reimburse us for this... Read More

receined notice that my policy would be cancelled for non payment. Bill was paid ontime and I hve a cancelled check!!! It was sent automatically by my bank. Was on hold for 1 hour and twenty minutes. Check was sent on 1/3/20 and AIG did not post till 1/21 and sent me notice of overdue and grace period. Someone over at AIG is not doing their job. After waiting over 40 min with robo phone system told to call another number. Waited additional 40 min to talk to someone named Phil who verified everything was in order. Just waisted 1.5 hours of my day.

I went through an insurance agent who connected me to AIG for life insurance on the house. When I realized we couldn't meet the monthly payment anymore, they told me my agent had to cancel it and that I, the policy holder, could do nothing. I originally wanted to switch it to a cheaper monthly plan but they said I would have to wait a whole year before doing that. What kind of business goes by rules like these?? Since they didn't want to take my money at all, I decided to cancel permanently and go elsewhere. I thought they would at least refund me the first monthly payment since I was only with them for one month, but they wouldn't even do that. I'm VERY disappointed in AIG and the fact... Read More

BEWARE!!! I had a 15 year term policy that was EFT’d from my account every month for $104.00 that’s approximately $18,720.00. January of 2019 my policy ended and was terminated. I then found out that US Lifef/AIG had been debiting my account for $2617.94 per month with out my permission. When I called they told me that as per my policy automatically renewed at the new at this new rate EVEN WITH OUT MY EXPRESSED PERMISSION. $10,471.76. BEWARE OF THIS SCAM.

My ten year policy was set to expire. I received a letter stating the premiums would drastically increase if I did not renew or cancel. I called 30 days in advance to cancel the policy. The customer service representative stuttered and stammered and placed me on hold several times. After a time, he confirmed that the policy was canceled. Fast forward 30 days, and my account was hit for the higher premium. I called customer service again and again. Even though the problem was clearly their fault, customer service was very unconcerned. I called back a few times to speak to incompetent "customer service" representatives. The problem is not resolved, and I have no confidence in this... Read More

The company took out my bank account twice causing me to have 105.00 dollars in overdraft fees,. Having to cancel plans and now I have to wait for them to send me a check. Not counting the overdraft fees, that I have to dispute. I'm very disappointed in there service.

Very poor customer service. I had to deal with them because I had Geek Squad and this was the company to pay out for damages. Waste of money and time! They will say what they want not to pay out, and you get a run around on the phone.

Very poor customer service. My husband got insurance through his job. He died 20 years ago. They paid death within with 6 months which was ok. It was a policy for the family. I paid premiums for 2o years, it took me all 20 to get the poiicy in my name. The hold up was clerical error on their side. . My son and my husband had the same first name only. The service agents don't speak clear English. It takes eternity for everything. You have to call a month to get clear English representives. They will make up anything to tell you. Getting the correct answer to your questions is s treasure hunt. Big business don't care they just rake in the money. I thought they would... Read More

This insurance company is the worst for posting payments on time. They do not have good customer service. They had local agents were easier to deal with but when they closed the local office in FarmVille that was the worst thing that they could have done. My mom has insurance with them and I pay on time each month and they still say that she is 2 to 2 payments behind. I have submitted receipts showing payment submitted and they up date and start the same past due notices again. They need AR persons that know what they are doing. The threats to cancel insurance on an aging person is not a good thing. Open a local office for accepting insurance payments if you are that great.
