Founded in 2015, Firstleaf is a wine club that uses technology to match consumers to wines that fit their unique tasting profile. With over 150,000 customers, Firstleaf uses consumer feedback to customize its boxes for every individual’s palate. The company’s wineries are located in Napa and Sonoma County, California.

Firstleaf provides members with direct-to-consumer wine services, delivering wines sourced from vineyards all over the world. Orders are delivered within 2-5 days to a location of your choice, with a frequency that can vary between one, two or three months, depending on the customer's answers during the introductory quiz. Nonetheless, delivery frequency can be adjusted at any time in the account settings.

Membership Programs

After completing a nine-question quiz about their wine preferences, customers can sign up for a customizable subscription. Customers can choose the type of wines they want to receive (reds, whites, or a mix of both),  as well as indicate whether they enjoy the occasional sparkling and rosé. 

If you decide to join the club, the initial shipment of six wines is $39.95. Subsequent orders cost $90 (around $15 per bottle). 

All Firstleaf club shipments contain six bottles that reflect each individual's taste, as determined by their wine profile and the ratings they submit online. By using an algorithm that analyzes 13 billion data points, Firstleaf states that each shipment gets better as you rate more wines. 

Customers can re-order their favorite wines or try new ones. Firstleaf gives customers the opportunity to preview each shipment, allowing you to swap out a wine you’re not interested in for something you'd enjoy more.

Membership can be canceled anytime and does not require a signup fee. However, if you are not ready to commit to a membership, you can shop at Firstleaf's online store, where you'll find various gift packs for purchase without the need to sign up. 

Shipping

Firstleaf ships to 46 states and Washington, D.C. (No deliveries to Alabama, Mississippi, Rhode Island, or Utah). Orders are usually shipped about 24 hours after being placed, with delivery via FedEx or UPS ground shipping. Speed of delivery varies by location, but typically takes about two to five business days.

Customer Service

Firstleaf offers its customers a 100% satisfaction guarantee: if, for any reason, you're not satisfied with a bottle you receive, you will get a credit for it (minus shipping) to use for another bottle in the future. 

Firstleaf’s Member Experience team is available to help customers via phone or chat seven days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. Customers can also write them an email to resolve specific issues. 

Customers can also take advantage of a membership perk by booking an appointment with a certified wine concierge that helps in selecting the best wines suited to your palate.

First leave is a scam and they promised me to sent wine on this date and it didn't arrived and I complained about it. The person who I was talking to he was so rude and talked over me. I do not recommended this to any one.

The wines from the first shipment we received were all outstanding and we were looking forward to the next shipment. The list of wines to be sent to us on our second shipment included three 90+ point wines, a platinum medal winner and two silver medal winners. Unfortunately, they sent us completely different wines that appear to be unremarkable in their descriptions. I am not happy with this way of doing business. I contacted them and several days later they responded, informing me that I should have exchanged out the wines before shipment. I subscribed, got the first box of wine. I didn't want to continue so I canceled the subscription. They sent another box of wine anyway, and charged me $79 for it. I wrote "refused" on the box and left it for the carrier to pick up. Firstleaf gave me a $40 credit when I complained, but I believe they should give me a full credit for something I didn't order. I've called, chatted, and emailed to no avail. They never answer the phone, and they haven't responded to my emails. The chat person was not helpful either.

I don't know whether Firstleaf is a scam or they are just wildly incompetent. I purchased a Groupon for $100 of wine. I then did what I thought I was supposed to do and went to the website "store" and selected 6 bottles. While it is clear to me that the prices in the store (as opposed to the club) are wildly inflated, because I was able to purchase the Groupon with a promo code, this was still what should have been a good deal. When I went to check out, I was given an error message. I tried again, same message. I then opened the chat client and then proceeded to spend more than 1 hour trying to get this resolved. I'm on my 6th shipment and it's going great so far. Amazing wines, really enjoy the cards that come with that give more detail. UPS had an issue but firstleaf was able to contact them and fix for me.

Do not deliver on weekends and you have to pay extra to get it delivered after 5 pm, none of which they tell you .... so if you're working like a normal person you're never gonna see your order ...

A lot of our members have found, though, a few ways that work well for making sure they can dependably get their wines. I’d like to share them with you and see if they might be possible fit for you: 1. Shipping orders to a business address or FedEx location for pick up: Changing your address helps make sure that FedEx delivers on the first attempt. Then, you can pick up your order when it’s convenient for you! 2. Changing the arrival date so the order will arrive on a day you’re best available: You can change your arrival date by following these few simple steps: Log into your Firstleaf account On the “Next Box” page, click on the “Arrives On” button Select the exact date you want your order to arrive on from the calendar that pops up If either of these options work for you, please let me know if I can help change your address, change your next arrival date, or help you find a FedEx location near you!

I inadvertently duplicated an order and notified them right away but they refused to cancel it even though it hadn't even left the warehouse. Horrible e-commerce website, lacking up to date functionality. In another order they shipped me an entire box of the wrong wine, which I was forced to keep without a full refund. Saddest thing is it was a wine I previously rated poorly.
