I reserve 5 star ratings for truly excellent work and FreeTaxUSA deserves it. First I tried to use TurboTax like I did last year, but they had fees that they added as I went through their cumbersome process. When I was at the final page, I read what I was agreeing to before clicking on the "Agree" button. They wanted me to agree to give them $120 for a relatively simple tax return. Instead, I looked for another tax service site that would tell me the cost up front. I found FreeTaxUSA. So easy, so user friendly, so cost effective. Easy to navigate. Even handles 1099-MISC income for self employed persons. It asks all the right questions to determine what deductions and what credits you are eligible for. If you don't understand something you just click on the question mark and it provides additional details. You just provide the answers and dollar amounts, and it spits out all the necessary, calculated IRS forms for you. After completing your federal return it is ready for your state return info. It e-files both returns for you. Why hire an accountant?
