Overall Rating: 4.1 / 5 (Excellent)

Harmar manufactures stairlifts that offer a lot of unique advantages compared to others within the industry. Their compactness, lesser weight, and unique, patented gear system combine to make them a very good option for battery-powered stairlifts, as they require less maintenance and upkeep than other, similar models. The company's warranties are also excellent and comprehensive, as is to be expected with proprietary mechanisms.

Features and Customization - 4.5 / 5

Harmar's standout feature is its unique gear system, with a patented helical-worm gear drive, which requires very little maintenance, and draws less power than other battery-driven stairlift models. Another remarkable feature is the exceptional compactness of their models, which are light, slim, and can fold up to take up just 10.5" of staircase width. The folding rail option not only lessens trip hazards at the foot of the staircase but is also more aesthetically pleasing. Some features, like padded seats and backrests and adjustable seat height, vary depending on model.

Harmar Contract & Plan Details

Warranty - 4 / 5

Since Harmar's system is unique, replacement parts can only be purchased through the company, and repairs or maintenance should also be performed by its technicians, to minimize the risk of damage, and remain under warranty. However, the company offers an excellent 3-year warranty on components, 10 years on their patented gear rack system, and 1 year on batteries. We could not find information on whether Harmar dealers offer refurbished stairlifts or rental options. They do claim to offer consumer financing but don't mention specifics.

Had our SL600 installed in July 2018. It has been used a total of 4 times and it is now stuck at the bottom of the stairs. The operators manual is useless for trouble shooting. The installer will not be able to get to it for 3 weeks. I tried contacting Harmar, not even a response. Terrible customer support. DO NOT buy this brand.

Stairlift lower charging rail has cracked. I have only owned it for about 4.5 years. They want 1800.00 to repair it. It only cost 4200.00 new. Not a happy customer.

John George did a remarkable job in installing the stair lift, however, after a few months I get a lot of stops and go problems.Recently I get stops and no go. After much fiddling, I get it to go again. This keeps continuing and I wonder when it will completely stop. I am 93 yrs old and can not climb the stairs. Please advise me as to how this problem can be resolved. The serial # of my lift isASCUP 160818- 00001. If I get no satisfaction the Veteran Administration will be informed. Jpmluciani@gmail.com

This is a review of Harmar Customer Service Only. On behalf of my church which has three Harmar chair lifts, I repeatedly attempted to contact Harmar about a service issue with one of the lifts. Harmar's documentation and troubleshooting did not address the problem, and nor did a service call from the original installer. Only on the third of 3 calls was I able to speak to a human. I was only able to request technical support before the customer service agent asked if I was a "Dealer". The instant I said "no" I was transferred, without a word, to a generic voicemail where I left my contact info and support request. 4 days later my call has yet to be returned, and a subsequent call...
