AmeriSave is a medium-sized non-bank lender, which provides first mortgages and mortgage refinancing. The company offers a full complement of loan products, including low-cost government-backed loans.

Though AmeriSave has had some regulatory problems in the past, its competitive pricing and overall transparency may compensate for these issues.

The company's online portal can provide quotes in under a minute. AmeriSave features a number of calculators and other tools on its website to help homeowners understand how different refinancing scenarios would play out for them.

The company also offers an unusually high level of proactive customer service during the quote process that may make shopping for the best refinancing offer easier for customers.

Loan Variety - 4.5 / 5

AmeriSave offers competitive rates on its mortgage refinance products, which include both government-backed FHA, VA, and USDA loans, as well as conventional and jumbo loans.

Customers can also choose between fixed- and variable-rate loans, though with mortgage rates being near historic lows at the time of this review, many borrowers would be best served by locking in a loan rate while the market is so favorable.

Ease of Process - 5 / 5

AmeriSave makes comparing refinancing scenarios considerably easier than many companies. The company's quote tool returns a wide variety of options and shows you how your monthly payments will change if you decide to pay points upfront. AmeriSave's website features a live chat feature. After you complete the quote process, an AmeriSave representative will reach out via chat and ask you if you need any help understanding your options or continuing with the application process. Such pro-active customer service is unusual in the industry. Speaking with a loan representative in real time, when you have all of your options in front of you on your computer, is a great way to gain insight into the refinancing process. The use of live chat versus telephone contact may be more comfortable and less intrusive for many borrowers.

Customer Service and Reputation - 4.5 / 5

Despite the considerable number of positive reviews AmeriSave has received on online consumer platforms, AmeriSave has had 14 regulatory actions taken against it by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and 599 complaints lodged with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau over the past three years. Given the size of the company and the number and variety of loans it offers, that record isn't all that bad. Many lenders don't even fare that well. But it does underscore the need for consumers to become extremely well-educated about mortgages before they refinance a property. Many complaints in the mortgage industry can be traced back to misunderstandings about loan approval criteria, lenders' fees, and borrowers' responsibilities once they've taken out a loan.

Worst company I have ever dealt with. Told me processing time on a re-fi would be max 60 days. I submitted application, paid their $500.00 processing fee. I had excellent Fit score (780+), ample money in checking account plus $500K in investment accounts plus $200K equity in home.. They kept demanding more information as the process went on, some of the demands ridiculous (private road certificate etc.) After 90 days of them not being able to finalize my loan, I went to Rocket Mortgage and had final approval and figures in 24 HOURS! They continue to ask for more documentation that should have nothing to do with my loan approval Amerisave is nothing but a total scam, they took my... Read More

Locked in at 3.375 several days before the stock adjustment due to COVID 19. For some reason amerisave changed my cost by adding nearly 6,000.00 after the market fell. Very shady business. Talking about using a disaster for profit. No response from management. Filed complaint in California, will follow up, but this company is unethical. Thanks for nothing Erickson Green, you should be very proud of yourself.

LOUSY customer service, follow up and professionalism. My loan origination officer gave me some acceptable estimates and I provided the documentation requested (2 yrs tax returns personal and corporate). After several follow up emails from me to Zach Carpenter, I gave up. Now response after being told I'll get back to you shortly on three occasions. It's not like there are a couple of hundred lenders out there that would like to do business. I say STAY AWAY from this group. They don't even act legit.

I have completed more than 30 loans in the last 15 years and I've never had a poor experience until now with Amerisave. Their process was extremely cumbersome, I had to produce 62 different documents. I would have been required to produce more, but I pushed back because there were so many duplicate requests and website errors. Due to all the sunk costs and time I continued until closing when the loan they wanted me to sign had closing costs much higher than we had discussed during the loan process. It should have been a red flag when they asked for $500 mortgage application fee up front (I don't recall doing that with any other loan). I did not close my loan with them due to the numbers... Today I received a random phone call from AmeriSave's caller. She connected me with a lender who tried to aggressively sell me their refinance options. He repeatedly asked me for my DOB, etc., despite that I told them I was in the refi process with my current bank. I refused to provide anything beyond what they knew from their sources, and the lender became annoyed. I politely tried to end the conversation, but he threatened me with "We will call you back immediately - all the time!" I finally told him calmly, "YOU DON'T!" Very bad service. Never go to AmeriSave, based on my experience.

Lauren Frank and Clayton Haynes are total liars and cheats. All they want to do is sell their home appraisals at above market price. Do not start the mortgage process with Amerisave. Complete waste of time. Zero star rating for Amerisave!!

They operates by unsolicited spam phone call dumping - Do not know them and don't own a home but they call my cell phone with unsolicited spam calls many times and on Sundays (all such calls to cellphones are a federal violation/fine). The only way to have gotten my number is by purchasing stolen number list from a recent data breach, possibly bought on the dark web. I will file complain with FTC, FCC

Extremely aggressive in luring me in. I had to pay nearly $500 for an appraisal. It took them weeks to find one and, when they did, he was from an expensive, unincorporated suburb in another city. His appraisal was full of factual errors, but I had to pay anyway and then got declined because of his inaccurate appraisal. I have a suspicion AmeriSave got a pretty handsome markup on his appraisal. They don't mind spending time pursuing your business because they're going to make money off of you even if they turn you down. My recommendation: Work with a local mortgage lender. Stay away from the big corporations.
