RealEats - Overview

RealEats was initially created by a single father who wanted to help busy people find a way to cook healthy meals for their families without spending a lot of time in the kitchen. The company prepares fresh meals at its licensed facility and vacuum seals them into individual pouches. Customers receive their meals within a couple of days of ordering them. Pouches can be heated in the microwave or by submerging them in boiling water for about 6 minutes. Real Eats pouches stay fresh in the refrigerator for about 7 days. The company does not recommend freezing the pouches because they are meant to be consumed fresh for best taste and optimum nutrition. 

RealEats' menus feature dishes from a range of global cuisines. New recipes are added weekly. All ingredients are minimally processed, non-GMO, responsibly-sourced, and never frozen.

Real Eats offers breakast and dinner selections. The company prides itself on the freshness of its meals. Located in the Finger Lakes, New York agricultural district, Real Eats sources seasonal ingredients locally when possible.

Real Eats organizes its meal options into three sections to help customers select easily. You can browse featured weekly selections, review all breakfast choices, or check out their entire dinner offering. Each selection comes with a description and full nutrition facts so users can get all the information possible before making a choice. 

 

Meal Subscription Services

RealEats has two types of plans, a dinner plan, and a dinner and breakfast plan. Customers can order a set number of meals for the week. The RealEats dinner only plan can be customized to 4, 6, 8, or 12 meals a week. The company's combination dinner and breakfast plan can be customized to 4, 8, or 12 meals a week  All plans include free delivery via Fed Ex or UPS.

How Much Does It Cost You?

RealEats customers are charged weekly for their orders. Your subscription continues until you cancel or change it. Customers can opt to skip a week if they provide prior notice by the cut-off date and time specified in their agreements.

Shipping and Delivery

Shipping is free on all orders, though RealEats customers cannot set their own delivery dates. Meals are ordered on Mondays and will either arrive Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the customer's zip code. The shipping box is thermal-regulated and contains ice packs so food stays fresh during transit. RealEats also offers online package tracking.

I just started using RealEats. I am happy with the choice to date. I love the options… I usually go with low sodium and healthy heart. I like the portion size too. So far so good!

We tried RealEats at the beginning of the year. The food quality was good but the portion size for the cost wasn't what we needed. I contacted them in Feb. and told them I didn't want any more meals. At the end of Aug. (on a Friday) I found a charge from them for $168 on my account. I reached out and left a VM for customer service and also e-mailed them telling them this was an error and that I wanted a refund. On Monday I received an e-mail with tracking info. stating the meals had been shipped. On Tues. customer service contacted me and told me they wouldn't issue a refund since the meals had shipped. I ordered a few months back just to try it and to-day I received a shipment that I have not ordered. I guess as long as they gave your credit account number they will ship when they feel like it.

I really love the idea of this, it's simple and quick to make. I've tried about 8 packs thus far and everything is WAY too salty tasting. I don't have a sodium issue or need to watch my intake, I just found the taste to be super salty. I want to keep buying these but I don't know if I can with the over-salted taste. There's no need for this much salt, people can add more, but we can't remove it. There's no doubt the taste-tester has numb taste buds, that's how extra salty this is and frankly, takes away from what I think can be great flavors. But can't get past the salt. I’m a single guy and Realeats is a great program. I feel the quality and taste are very good and there is enough variety to prevent boredom. I tried Hello Fresh and got tired of cooking and eating leftovers the next day since their plan is for 2 people. Freshly and Factor are microwaved so you hope they heat through properly. Don’t think your meal will look like anything in the photos. I had constant problems that Freshly always sent underweight products! Week after week. To save money, I order a 12 meal plan from Realeats every two weeks and then freeze part of the order. Then I take 1 or 2 and defrost them as needed. I'm a single mom who doesn't have great cooking skills. I have tried the more complicated box deliveries like Hello Fresh and the microwaveable ones that are pre-prepared. I found them too difficult for me to do and time consuming or just great in flavor. Then, thank goodness, I tried Real Eats as a last resort and have been so happy with the meals and breakfasts I could shout from the rooftop!! I love this meal delivery option....healthy, easy, quick, and tastes like I'm eating from a gourmet restaurant. It is also helping me lose weight, as the meals are filling, but so healthy. I have been more than pleased!!! I hope this business stays around forever!!

Not as described. Very deceptive. I just received my first package of meals, today, in the afternoon of Jan 20th. The paper inside the box a states meals should be consumed by Jan 24, which is only 4 days from now. The website states meals can be "stored in the fridge for up to 7 days". But then they only give you 4 days??? If the website states that food received can be refrigerated for seven days, then that's exactly what I expect to receive. Then I contacted Customer Service through their website and they advised that I should freeze these meals however, "that this may cause some textures and tastes to change".
