Casper Sleep, Inc. is dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and selling hybrid foam mattresses and sleep accessories such as pillows, sheets, mattress protectors, dog mattresses, and foundation support products for mattresses. They are accredited by the Better Business Bureau, with an A+ rating. The New York-based company sells their products online, though they also have regular popups so customers can physically try them out.

Size and Firmness

Casper offers three different hybrid foam mattress models, with varying levels of firmness and layers. Their most streamlined mattress, The Essential, is composed of three layers to offer support, breathability and comfort at 8.5" height. The next in line, The Casper, is their most popular mattress. This model's unique combination of four layers makes it 10" high, with high density memory foam and a transition layer for comfort. Finally, their The Wave model's five layers make it 11.5" tall, with targeted firmness for hips, shoulder, and back, as well as a hypersensitive top layer and contouring for added pressure relief. Additionally, it also offers enhanced, targeted support for ergonomic spinal alignment.

Casper's products meet stringent environmental standards. Their latex is certified by Oeko Tex, (an independent testing and certification system for textiles products), and their foams are Certi-Pur certified, which essentially means that they're made without harmful flame retardants, ozone depleters, heavy metals, or formaldehyde; as well as that they have low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality. When Casper designed their mattress, they incorporated different types of foam for different purposes: a memory foam core offers support, and the top comfort layer emulates the bounciness of spring form mattresses. All mattresses are encased in a hand-sewn, zip-off cover.

Purchase Details

All Casper products, including not just mattresses, but also pillows, bedframes, and bedlinens, have a 100-night sleep trial. If a customer is dissatisfied with their purchase, the company either sends a courier to either pick up and dispose of the product, (usually either by donating to a local charity or recycling), or they include a prepaid UPS label for free shipping back to Casper. Both options include a 100% refund for the original form of payment, and Casper always covers both the original shipping and any returns. Their White Glove delivery markets function across the 48 contiguous states, in which a local courier delivers, unboxes the compressed mattress and removes any additional packaging. Customers can add a removal service to this for their previous mattress, for an additional fee (these services may also be subject to additional restrictions).

All Casper mattresses have a 10-year warranty for issues not associated with regular usage, such as repairs of indentations of one inch or more--and depending on the severity, they'll even replace the mattress entirely. If the mattress cracks or split notwithstanding regular use and handling, Casper covers any physical flaw. Finally, their warranty also extends to the mattress cover and its zipper assembly. Though they do recommend the use of one of their own bedframes as the ideal foundation for their mattresses, Casper does have alternative suggestions if their customer prefers to use a different bedframe. Their warranty will still cover the mattress if it is used with a bed base capable of supporting its weight and its users; this can include a flat platform or adjustable base, slatted bedframe with gaps no larger than three inches, and box spring or foundation (although in this case they do encourage the use of a bunkie board).

Customer Service and Reputation

Since Casper understands that some people prefer to physically test and feel their mattresses and associated sleep products, they've incorporated pop-up spaces that customers can find out via their emailed Snoozeletter. Their website is chock-full of helpful information, with videos, a vey comprehensive FAQ section, and online chat with representatives to answer any questions live.

Casper can afford to keep their prices reasonable, despite offering a high-quality, luxury product, because they've cut out the middleman and pass on those savings on overhead costs directly to the consumer. They have excellent online reviews, and are a BBB-accredited company with an A+ rating. Though they have a 6.9 out of 10 TrustPilot score, this is belied by the fact that customer reviews on the site are 75% positive.
