Though Homesite claims to have been one of the first insurance companies to do business over the internet, its web interface is rather bare-bones compared to many of its competitors. It does not appear that the company has an agent network independent of American Family's. Homesite is still listed by the BBB as a going concern and, like most insurance companies, has substantially more negative ratings than positive ones.

Homesite/American Family offers all of the standard homeowners insurance coverages. Like some of its competitors, it also now offers coverage for identity theft. Unlike most of its competitors, it also offers coverage for water back-ups.

Pricing for Homesite/American Family home insurance is on par with the rest of the industry. However, the company offers a very broad array of discounts - including as discount for the children of American Family customers - that may make premiums lower than those of the competition.
