I thought this was going to be a good company to work with, their online quote system seemed cool. However, after I got my mortgage company the contact and quote information from Hippo, they decided to increase the price of the premium by almost $400 at the last minute, even though not only did I kept in touch over email, I also had a conversation with a representative that went over the coverage and price before. Good thing I had a few days to find another company to work with us. Good for the people that this workout for but from my end I definitely will NOT recommend them.
The technology and ease of use is light years ahead of the competition. Truly admirable and give them an A+ for that. I just feel like they're very deceptive in communicating who your home is actually insured with. For most people homes are their most valuable assets and it's important to make sure it's insured with a company your at least familiar with. Hippo is the agent, broker, or sales person in this case. They don't pay or handle claims. What good will all the technology in the world do if your insured with a no name carrier with no claims support? You really have to dig dig dig dig to find out who the actual insurance company is and for that reason I give them a 1 star.... Read More
Competitive pricing on home insurance. Additional coverage offered and there are features that is advertised to be available soon which i am interested in. I like to support Startups and at this point Hippo was competitive with price and i switched even though my old insurance company price matched. I would like to see what they can offer advances in technology , smart home features etc.. Also having no customer portal to login and communicate with customer service is a Big Miss . I also never received policy documents in my regular mail yet , this should be required. Hopefully they fix this soon. I do not have any claim experience with the company so can not comment on that.
The company does not disclose all info during the buying process. Infact, you have to ask them in chat and they send you some documents in email. For eg it does not say on website that worker's comp only covers if the worker has worked for 52 hrs at your property in the last 90 days and has earned min $100. They say most workers are covered by their employees. Then what's the use of offering this policy, which essentially is useless. And you cant even take it away for lower premium, because they use it for marketing. Similarly they have to cover a min of 755k, cant ask for lower coverage. Rates are pretty comparable to what reputed companies like Amica, State farm offer. Lack of... Read More
I had Hippo homeowners insurance for one year (2018 - 2019). We cancelled and went with another company because they raised our rates from $1,900 to $7,700 to renew. When the renewal notice came in email the rate increase was not prominently indicated. Had I not clicked through to see the rates -- in other words, had I assumed our rate was going to remain the same -- I would have been shocked. I believe not pointing out material changes in the policy (massive increase) is a form of consumer deception. We never made a claim, never so much as contacted customer service. Then, after I confirmed cancellation with them in writing, they billed my credit card for the $7,700. They refunded... Read More
Well, it has been an experience that is for sure. On the positive side, they had the best rate, $1000 less than my previous homeowners insurance. Initial sign up online was easy but there was a section where you could opt to have them take care of the cancellation of your old insurance which had they actually done that would have been awesome but they did not. For both my flood and homeowners they did not send anything to my old insurance nor to my mortgage company to have the escrow account pay the policies as we agreed. Instead they simply sent me letters saying I had not paid and they were going to cancel the policies. Once I got involved, they were quick to sort it out which... Read More
Just set up a policy and realized I needed to change my billing from quarterly to escrow. Called them up from the number on my proof of insurance form and IMMEDIATELY got someone on the phone and had it corrected within 2 minutes. So I'm new but that left a really good impression and Becky was great to deal with.
I purchased a home in SF a few months back and finding an insurance policy was a nightmare. I called all the usually suspects and it was never clear to me what my policy entailed and what specifically I was paying for. One of my friends turned me on too Hippo and the process could not be more transparent or simple. I found my policy in no time and understood all my coverage and what I was entitled to in what scenarios. I highly recommend their product.
I have been insured with HIPPO since November. They cost about 1/3 of my old insurance but so far so good. I called left a message and was called back quickly. So far I am very happy especially with the rates...
switched my homeowners insurance to hippo because i got a much better rate. after switching, they notified me that they require a home inspection. fine, no problem. weeks later i get a message from them that they are dropping me because i didn't get a home inspection. i call them and tell them i never heard from an inspector. they told me that an inspector sent me a personal email (from an unknown to me individual) and i never responded. i told them to give them my phone number and to call me first. days later i randomly found an inspector knocking on my front door, on a day i was supposed to be working. no phone call, the inspector said he was never given any phone numbers. so inspection... Hippo is the first insurance company I've ever enjoyed working with. The signup process was stupid easy, and most importantly, I never had to talk to anyone on the phone. Then I did my renewal over email within minutes. Now if only they'd sell auto, life, and health...
Yes, I have them. I filed a claim with them on some hail damage from the last storm. All is good and they found damage that I was not aware of. Everyone from the estimator and the office contact have been professional. No complaints here.
As a first time home owner, it was a pleasure working with Hippo! I had another company’s policy before, but Hippo offered me a more relevant, comprehensive policy, at a cheaper price and with better customer support throughout! I was blown away, and could not recommend them more!
I would be wary of this company. You can't have a copy of your policy until AFTER it goes into effect. They provide a summary until you've paid and the policy is effective. No way you can have a copy of the full policy before. That raises red flags for me. Also, they indicate that a home inspection needs to be performed but they don't schedule it until weeks after your policy goes into effect. That gives them the opportunity to change the rate they quoted. They want you to buy before you know what's in it. Not a good business model. I canceled before the policy went into effect because of these factors.
This site reads like an advertisement for Hippo Insurance... I have purchased Hippo Home Insurance and had nothing but problems with them... First they got my policy wrong... then when you call "customer service" it sounds like they all work from home, (dog barking? baby crying? no central office/oversight)… then they got the premium wrong... then they got the start date wrong... I finally canceled... you get what you pay for.
their rates are so far from being competitive it is crazy. I got quoted $9,307 a year or like $775 a month. that is not including wind, hail or hurricane coverage. with over quotes coming in around 1300 to 1600 a year including wind, hail and hurricane coverage.
Takes forever to reach them by phone. They have a poor web-site. They have e-mail me information of others folks insurance policy info. They bill you again after you pay them in full. Most insurance co. gives you a discount for paying in full .
Wow, I was getting frustrated with all of the big name insurance companies and even a few of my local smaller companies. Every single company was either double the price or if they were able to come close to Hippo, their coverage amounts were not as much and had higher deductibles. I went ahead and signed up on the Hippo site and selected Escrow as my lender will be sending the funds. I am just crossing my fingers that this premium quote does not change for any reason like a bait and switch. We shall see. So far so good and thanks Hippo!
They only accept credit cards. I do not want to use plastic.
My policy is going to be dumped because Hippo will not take checks, money orders, or a bank draft.
I had a wind claim were a big tall tree falling down on my swimming pool ripping down my back yard fence and the wind sent chairs into the pool ripping up my pool liner and 100,000 gallons of water destroyed my shad and concrete and they respond to my claim the call was on Aug 18 and I didn't get no attention to my house tell 3weeks later which was not acceptable then when the adjuster cam out they made me waiting weeks again to find out then they want to get a Engineer come look at it not mine you it's going on three later then come up with a story of not it's not cover I'm going to sue the bricks off these Crooks and the lade Megan Green dont have a clue on doing a... BAIT AND SWITCH!!!! Hippo Policy secured about 10 months ago was easy to apply for and $2,300 per year. I dropped travelers cause I got slightly better coverage with Hippo. Was a little nervous because they are very new to the insurance world. Well now I understand that their insurance seems like a bait and switch SCAM to get you to drop good insurance, hop to them then they jack up the insurance by 500%?? Just got my renewal policy and the yearly premium jumped to $12,029!!! So glad I checked cause it is on auto pay and they would have gone and taken that money. No Claim activity with them at all, trying to figure out the basis for the hike as our house has the exact same situation... Read More
very reasonabley priced, have not had to use yet so don't know about service. but easy to purchase on line
Hippo has come to Texas .
I found Hippo after my Homeowners Premium jumped for no apparent reason, otherwise I would still be paying too much.
Getting a Quote was easier than expected and the New Premium and better coverage was a pleasant surprise.
I just signed a new policy with them about two months ago as I just bought a new home. I have to say they were quite a bit cheaper than the bigger companies and I felt like the coverage was aimed more towards what I was looking to have covered. I have not made a claim on anything yet, but I did call to add more coverage and they were easy to get ahold of and had good customer service.
Do Not Use This Company For Homeowners Insurance. I Had A Roofer Tell Me I Had Hail Damage To My Roof That I Needed To Call My Insurance Company So I Did. They Sent A Adjuster To Meet With My Roofer And The Adjuster Said I Didn't Have Enough Damage To Do A Claim. Since Then I Got A Different Insurance Company After Hippo Almost Doubled My Rates. The New Insurance Company Sent A Inspector Up On My Roof, And Said We Will Not Cover Your Roof Because Their Is Way To Much Hail Damage. I Tried To Call Back Hippo They Will Not Respond. Don't Use This Sorry No Paying Hippo Insurance Stay Away Or You Will Just Loose Your Money.
