Otofonix products are an above-average choice for those looking to buy personal hearing amplifiers. People often go with PSAPs because they are significantly less expensive than professionally fitted and prescribed hearing aids. But cheap devices can do more harm than good to one's hearing. Otofonix makes quality, hearing-aid level PSAPs at a reasonable price. The company's hearing amplifiers are light weight, easy to use, and can be adjusted for different environmental settings. Audio amplification and noise reduction features greatly improve sound quality and audibility. With great form factor, quality sound amplification, and digital noise reduction features, Otofonix hearing amplifiers are certainly worth the price and give more expensive counterparts a run for their money.

Otofonix Product Offerings

Product Offerings - 8 / 10

Otofonix markets 3 different types of audiologist tested digital hearing amplifiers: Apex, Elite, and Encore. Devices can accommodate those with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. Features include pre-programmed digital circuitry, adaptive background noise reduction, feedback cancelling, and enhanced speech understanding designed for all environmental situations. Devices feature 4 memory settings, 12 band digital sound processing, ten volume levels, and four present memory frequency settings that can easily be adjusted with one finger.

The hearing amplifier has four pre-set configurations. Normal setting for regular listening, noisy setting, which reduces background noise, treble setting to decrease annoying high pitched sounds, and quiet settings for quiet environments.

Although it is not a requirement for personal hearing amplifiers, all Otofonix devices are registered with the FDA, meaning they have passed the same safety regulations as hearing aids.

Pricing - 9 / 10

Although not as expensive as traditional hearing aids, Otofonix's prices are on the high end for personal sound amplification devices. Their three types range from $249.99 to $549.99 per ear. This is because the company offers a higher quality amplification device than what is standard across the industry. Indeed, as the product is one of the few FDA-registered PSAPs, customers can be assured they are getting a quality product.

I purchased the Elite model for my wife. I suspected the electronics in this device would be equal to the very expensive set that she lost. My suspicion was correct. The amplifier works great yet after three years of use. However I also suspected there to be a design flaw which proved to be true. The housing has a very thin loop around the ear tube end. After removing the ear tube for cleaning several times this fragile loop breaks and allow sound to escape resulting in feedback. My solution is to "glue" the ear tube back on each time it is cleaned. Sadly Otofonix has not redesigned the housing. My rating for performance is 5 stars. My over rating however is 2 stars. After all the ear tube... Read More
