Completely incompetent company. Even simple questions take hours to resolve, and go through multiple departments. Their own departments can’t work with each other and no one knows anything. You have no idea how much you’re going to end up paying for any particular service. Find another company.

WORST INSURANCE COMPANY - THEY APPROVE SURGERY'S THAN AFTER THE FACT SAY THEY ARE PUTTING TOWARDS DEDUCTIBLES! AND WHEN YOU APPEAL THEY DON'T CARE THEY STILL DENY YOUR CLAIM! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT THEIR OWN POCKETS

I loved the doctors I had for UHC. They helped take care of all of my needs.

I recently ended a Term Health Insurance policy with UHC and wanted to share my experience. In 2021 I left my job to take care of an aging parent, I started a policy with UHC since they had been my policy provider through my employer. I had always been very satisfied with my interactions with them up until that point, so I thought they would be a good choice to continue providing insurance. I was mistaken. I did sign up for a 'tri-term' policy. A three-year insurance plan which I was led to believe was my only option given my circumstances. When I received my insurance information, it was from a subsidiary company of UHC. When I contacted UHC about this, I was told the subsidiary company... Read More

We cancelled our coverage as of 8/31. I have been told 5 different stories when we would receive our refund that was automatically taken out on Sept. 5th. To date, after talking to their representatives in the Phillipines, yes they are not in this country,we still don't have our money. Worst company I have ever dealt with!

Worst service ever. I cancelled it because we were paying over $500 a month and they covered nothing for me and paid 21cents per month on my wifes perscriptions. Every time I called I spoke to a foreign individual that was impossible to understand. I got three different stories about when I'd receive our refund and the supervisor was especially nasty. Her name was Jackie!

This company is horrible. (1) They don't compute claims correctly. This policy has a $3,000 out of pocket maximum. So far I have paid $5320.67 out of pocket. In fact on my home page it says Out-of-Pocket Maximum $5,320.67 spent / $3,000 total. (2) Communicating with them is very difficult. They retired their Message center on December 8, 2023. You can only communicate via chat. Well I downloaded their csv claims file and created a spreadsheet and did some processing and confirmed that I had paid $5320.67. I opened a chat session and the person couldn't understand what I was trying to tell her. She even sent me an image of the webpage that showed, "Out-of-Pocket Maximum $5,320.67... Read More

UHC is the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. Customer service reps are incompetent, unable to communicate with customers, lie to you about what they are going to do, among other things. I visited an in-network walk in clinic two times for cold/flu-like symptoms when my PCP was unavailable. As is quite common, a nurse practitioner on duty evaluated my symptoms. UHC claimed the nurse practitioners were Specialists which resulted in a higher copay. Many phone calls and appeals went nowhere. I was ready for a scheduled telephone hearing regarding the appeal, but UHC never called or followed up. When I questioned and complained about not getting a chance to voice my concerns... On March 21 this year I received a letter from them dated March 14. that of March 7 my healthcare provider is not anymore in their network. I was scheduled for April 3. to get a knee replacement with this provider who is now out of network and UH will not cover the cost. Is this gangster behavior legal? Paying for the insurance and the moment they need to do their part of the contract you get a kick in the Ass from UH.

This company goes out of its way to discriminate against deaf people. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, they will not let you use an interpreter of your choice and insists that you share your information with some random interpreting service that is governed by no Law whatsoever on whom they share your information with. They violate every ADA rule there is. But hay, deaf people to them have no rights. SHAME on UnitedHeathcare.

I switched to UHC (dual complete) from CHP in late 2017 & have never looked back. It's an incredible healthcare plan in my opinion & definitely the best I've ever had. I can get fresh fruit/veggies with my HealthyRewards Card, as well as assistance with my utility bill and 100% coverage of prescription medications. They also cover the cost of my hearing aids, eyeglasses & dental care. Anytime I've needed to speak with a UHC advocate, they've always gone above & beyond to assist me no matter what I've needed their help with. I highly recommend United Healthcare.

They frivolously deny claims and ask for unrealistic documentation beyond what the provided medical service is physically able to provide.

Wow, I just skipped to page 17 of these comments and they are all horrible....so, I just wanted to say I completely agree and really don't understand why they get 5 star ratings from the government and salesman. I get caught up in thinking well they must be the best, but all these reviews say they are awful...and they are..you got a problem, you are sent to the off shore call center who can only read a script, and will not understand, try to understand, or fix your problem. You call more folks, some that can speak American, and they can't help you. Thier apps don't work, and I was told my app was compromised...I complained to medicare...and they didn't care!

Worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. They automatically changed to secondary insurance without reaching out to find that I did not have another primary insurance. Then they started denying claims. Took six months to straighten out. They had paid a claim, rescinded payment and then still would not pay a claim and left me to pay the bill. Should be zero stars.

Every claim seems to get an automatic denial. I get gas lit, and spoken down to whenever I talk to associates. I can’t get straight answers to my questions, they circle around the question and provide a smoke and mirror answer. I really have had a bad experience with UHC.

UHC is leaving us without doctors. They are not signing with Boulder Community Health and we keep getting notices we will have no doctors after Sept 30. This is so bogus. Just like that- our entire health history and our on-going care are gone. My husband has cancer and is scheduled for surgery in Nov and he won't have insurance with his doctor. People face it- you are at their mercy and they don't have any mercy. They would rather send you $10 for talking to a friend than sign up competent and very wonderful doctors. They could keep their optium over the counter health benefits and they can keep their home nurse check up just give us back our doctors. Last month I would have... Read More

If I could get to this box without leaving any stars I would. UHC doesn’t deserve anything! This insurance is criminal! You and your doctor have to jump through so many hoops to get anything done. So much corrupt gray area! There must be a lot of politicians in bed with United Health Care. Having this insurance is like having no insurance, but you’re still paying a high monthly price. The people in charge of UHC sicken me😡

My husband's insurance was switched from Blue Advantage to United Healthcare. The transition process has turned into a NIGHTMARE. We are currently trying to figure out why their website shows my husband can obtain his Advair Diskus 90-day supply for $6.19 -- and then when he ordered it, they changed the price to $118. So far we've talked to Optum reps as well as UHC reps. NO STRAIGHT ANSWERS except to say "the plan" does not cover the generic of this drug?! (But the $6.19 price on the website isn't for generic anyway, it's for "brand.") Nearly a week into this tangled mess and still no answer in sight -- AND, Optum Rx shipped these drugs and billed him at the higher price without his... Read More

Worst insurance I have ever had. They deny everything first, even when your doctor says you need a surgery right away or you could become paralyzed. Only after several appeals will they relent and approve it. I just got denied again for a prescription. I freakin' hate UHC. Oh - and I pay $997 per month for a policy with a $8,000 deductible.

My strongest complaint concerns UnitedHealthcare's pharmacy provider, OPTUM who provides sub-standard care. Authorized medications are routinely denied and I am told to look elsewhere or have my physician select a different med. Today I was informed that the med ordered weeks ago was long standing out of stock and to call my doctor for a different medication. This has occured in the recent past for 3 other medications. Today 5/30/31 I called at 11am regarding a medication and when I asked for additional information the call was abruptly terminated by the OPTUM rep., not the first time being hung up on but the first time I am complaining. Their customer service is abysmal.

This is the worst insurance on the face of the earth. My husband needs a special therapy and it was denied. Trying to appeal for him to get this therapy is horrible. It was denied because they said he has dementia. What a crock of crap. They don't even know how to read a report. He suffers from MDD, not dementia. My husband's life is in their hands. When I can get Medicare, I WILL NEVER GET UHC INSURANCE. THEY SUCK.

Purchased insurance through Marketplace. I was supposed to pay $50.00 co pay to see an in network doctor. However after making the appointment the doctor was told that I had to meet my $7,500 deductible first. That isn't the way it was written in the description of the plan. When I cancelled the policy in the middle of the month they refuse to prorate my premium and refund the balance of the unused premium. This is not right!
