Backup Plan

The Backup Plan is ideal for generally healthy people who want to know they will be covered in case of a major injury or illness. With this plan, the patient has a choice of three metal levels with different individual deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. Before meeting the deductible, the patient pays the full price for services like primary care, specialist visits, urgent care, labs, and all drugs. After meeting the deductible, all services under the Bronze and Silver levels are $0. Under the Gold level, they are 20% of the total cost.

BACKUP PLAN Bronze Silver Gold
Individual deductible $6,500 $4,500 $1,500
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $6,500 $4,500 $4,500

Simple Plan

The Simple Plan is the signature Oscar plan. There are four coverage levels, including the Secure level, designed for people who only have routine care needs. With the Secure and Bronze levels, most services must be fully paid by the patient before the deductible is met. Under the Silver and Gold levels, most services have copays that range from $10 to $50, depending on the service. Once the deductible is met, all services under every Simple Plan level are 100% covered by the insurance. Additionally, since the deductibles match the OOP maximums, there is no cost-sharing under the Simple Plans.

SIMPLE PLAN Secure Bronze Silver Gold
Individual deductible $7,350 $7,350 $7,350 $4,000
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $7,350 $7,350 $7,350 $4,000

Classic Plan

The Classic Plan follows the structure of traditional health insurance plans, which may be ideal for people with chronic illnesses who need ongoing care. Four metal levels are available, with the Platinum level offering no deductible and copays for every service. With the Bronze level, on the other hand, all services must be paid in full before the deductible is met. After the deductible is met, the patient pays 50% of the total cost for most services and copays for prescription drugs. The Silver and Gold levels are similar in that most services must be paid in full before the deductible is met. Once the patient meets the deductible, copays are charged for the different services, with the Gold level offering the lowest post-deductible copays.

CLASSIC PLAN Bronze Silver Gold Platinum
Individual deductible $4,000 $2,000 $600 $0
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $7,150 $6,750 $4,000 $2,000

Summary

Oscar sets itself apart from the competition with its wide range of plans. Any customer can find a plan that fits their health care needs—and their budget. Oscar also offers a variety of additional services at no cost, like a concierge that can help customers get the most out of their plan. Services like this really make a difference when it comes to customers deciding between plans. Consumers can receive an instant free quote online by entering a few personal details like zip code, age, and income. Unfortunately, Oscar is only available in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, and California, though they expect to expand to other states in the future.

We were basically forced to go with Oscar because it’s all we can afford. Totally unimpressed and disgusted by the lack of docs that are affiliated with or taking Oscar. I’m paying over $300/month for 2 people. And half my meds are not covered!! And if I needed to see any additional specialists for some of my current health needs-the ones I’ve searched aren’t avail or if they are they are OUT of network which costs more. Way to screw people over who can’t afford the better insurance they previously had

This is the worst insurance you can have. I've had 3 eye surgeries and they paid for none of them. Do Not get this insurance. Run and get something else.

I have used them for two things this past year: prescription refills and a yearly physical. The prices I've been charged for refills does not match what is in their formulary and they denied costs for my annual physical. I emailed about the physical and they responded with a generic response. I went everything (bloodwork, etc) with my IN NETWORK doctor and these costs are always covered with other insurance. Now, they just stopped responding to my emails and other attempts to contact them. Signing up was even a nightmare - for being a tech company is was kind of odd how they couldn't get my account in the system. For now, I am avoiding the doctor or hospital until I can switch. If I get... Read More

They are very disorganized. They have now twice denied a doctor’s order. I have been trying to get medical treatment authorized since January 24, 2023. It is now April 16, 2023. I contracted with Oscar through the HSA. I will reconsider them in the future. They are being paid nearly $1200 per month to insure me. It’s really unbelievable.

Oscar is a terrible company and unfortunately, they don't even pay their sales agents the commission they promised us. So I won't be wasting any more of my time as an agent selling for them.

This company is awful. They send you bogus claims and there's almost no way to get in touch with an expert. I truly think they're the worst company I've had to deal with in my life. If there's a hell, Oscar execs will be there someday.

The worst health insurance ever. High premiums and terrible coverage. Do not even consider speaking to their customer service. Completely useless and unfriendly. Do yourself a favor and don't fall for their marketing!

Awful experience - denied claims - wouldn't review denials and hung up on me 3X

Do not use Oscar. They will do everything to deny a claim; a favorite trick seems to be (and I am experiencing now) converting "screening" colonoscopies (free according to ACA) to a "diagnostic" instead. The result? - a surprise $4000 dollar bill. This is the reason that people fear screenings and what should be routine exams; some of which end up incurable cancer. Oscar, in other words has a business practice that is literally responsible for KILLING people. They also have "errors" in their online and paper work - such as non existent mailing addresses for Grievances. Incorrect codes for doctors, etc. They also raises rates at a much higher rate than the national average; 2022 to... Read More

Oscar is the absolute worst company I've ever dealt with. It's your one-stop-shop for everything that can possibly be frustrating about an insurance company: 1. Impossible to look up what providers are in/out of network? Check. 2. Customer service reps who can't speak intelligible English? Check. 3. Claims department that deliberately and for no reason keeps large claims in the "processing" queue so your out of pocket never gets applied to your deductible? Check. 4. Changing policy benefits mid-year? Check (Virtual visits were advertised as being free. They now cost $38.) 5. Automatically sign you up for auto-renewal of your policy without checking with you? Check. 5a. Website portal... Read More

I have had my multi-state insurance license for years and have never had a more unprofessional experience than Oscar insurance. Out of country customer service hung up on me four times. They refuse to let me speak with their manager. During the cancellation process they try to sell you everything from timeshares to bargains that they found on the internet. I've honestly never seen anything like it. After asking to verify our credit card in order to cancel, they fraudulently signed us up for additional coverage that we did not order and had to cancel it. When the fraudulent program arrived in the mail it was the wrong spelling of my wife's name and the wrong email and contact info.... Read More

I have the Oscar Silver Simple HSA plan. I would NEVER use Oscar again. Their sole focus seems to deny claims, not honor them. I will NOT renew with them in 2023!!

I have limited choice in Texas and this company is laughably horrible. Their “concierge” service is useless and totally rude. I spent hours on hold, getting hung up on trying to pay my premium. Eventually I gave up and troubleshot the problem myself. Turns out my zip code was incorrect. A very simple issue but it took 2 hours and listening to the nastiest customer service reps. Also, I’m 42 no smoker, No preexisting conditions, my deductible is 7900 and my monthly is $390. So I pay almost $400 a month for lousy service and out of pocket dr visits. I’m basically uninsured with a concierge troll team. This is a scam company and I wasn’t surprised to find it’s part of the Kushner family... Read More

Oscar is the worst insurance I have EVER had! Even if a provider is listed on there webiste does NOT mean the doctors take the insurance. They want you to drive 30+ miles for imaging or urgent care. They are not affliated with any hospitals near you. Once you do find a provider that is listed and says they take the plan the claims are denied and you are told they are not in network. The customer service is terrible and extreme wait times. This company is a waste of money and a joke. Please pick another healtcare insurance!!!!!

Oscar is the worst company that I have ever delt with. I gave them one star because that is the lowest rating you can give. They have no clue what they are doing. Constantly messing things up. Keep on top of what you spend because they will erase money from your account in hopes you won't notice. Go somewhere else for your health insurance

Worst customer service. I am always on the phone asking the simplest question and it takes an hour for a 5 minute question/answer. The assistants are absolutely poorly trained. I spend my lunch hour calling and go without eating due to such poor assistance. They repeat themselves saying things that have nothing to do with the conversation or question asked. They do not know how to look up information regarding pricing of certain claims like hormone blood test. They even admitted they don't know who to spell the words. It's as if they are hired specifically just to drive you insane, and that it. If that's the case, I want to present them with an award. :((( P.S. it's also fun paying... Read More

This company is horrible. My son was due a refund in January and it is now May and they keep saying the refund was provided. They have put me through H--- and back with their lies and letters from their so called Compliance Group who do absolutely nothing to investigate the issue. You tell the 800 number people the account is closed back in January and what do they do they send the money to a closed account and swear it went through.......GUESS WHAT NO BANK RECORD OF IT. THEY DON'T LISTEN TO ANYTHING YOU SAY AND THEN THEY ACCUSE YOU OF LYING!!!!!!!! TOTALLY NEGATIVE REVIEW!!!!!!!! IF I COULD GIVE A NEGATIVE 5 STARS I WOULD STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!

This company is a scam! I got sick last year midnight so I called Oscar help line and the guy sent me an ambulance although I forbidden him. I told him that I am not able to pay for the high cost, I just needed an advice what to do. The ambulance took me the hospital that is 1 mile, 5 minutes away from my home and I got a bill of 2463 dollars that Oscar never paid! Since last year June we had this never ending argument that finally they decided that I must pay the full amount!!!

If there was a negative star I would highlight it. They owe a refund of $15.10 and still have not returned the money. I filed a complaint with the BBB and still Oscar lies by saying they refunded it when the bank says they didn't. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE OF THIS HEARTLESS LYING COMPANY !!!!!!!!!!!! THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS OR LACK OF..............

Was provided this option when signing up for coverage through the healthcare marketplace. I figured that since this was an option, they had healthcare providers reasonably close by I could choose from. WRONG! Closest urgent care facility is over 100 miles away. F*** these clowns. Don’t fall for their pretty words and BS on their fancy website and mobile app. They spent all their money building a shiny façade, but really they are just selling you a turd wrapped in tin foil.

We live in the fourth largest city in our state. We cannot get any doctor in our metro area to see my wife, who is in need of knee surgery. We’ve been trying since July. We finally canceled you to go with a major provider, only to discover that termination of insurance due to lack of acceptance by the medical community is not considered a life-changing event. Now my wife has to wait until next November when open enrollment begins. We paid money to Oscar for nothing. I would encourage everyone to stay far away.

I am SICK and TIRED of this companies RACIST commercials on TV. The one where the man says and I quote " You know what really hurts, when they don't believe your in pain because of the color of your skin". That the most racist s*** I've ever heard. This commercial must be banned from television. It's companies like this who are the cause of the racial device in this country. It's companies like this that incite the hatred going on in America. I would not do business with this company if my life depended on it. A bunch of racists bigots run this company. The hatred your spreading, will come back to haunt you one day, guaranteed. Evil companies ALWAYS get what the deserve in the... Read More
