Select Auto Protect offers car owners the opportunity to hedge against costly, unexpected repair bills by paying smaller amounts each month in exchange for cost-of-repair coverage. Customers can choose one of three different plans; the more parts and systems covered, the higher the cost of the plan. Customers who own older vehicles and expect to have to make more repairs may benefit from purchasing a higher-priced plan.

One of the best features of Select Auto Protect plans is that they do not limit the number of claims you can make during your contract period. That's great for people whose cars are older or subject to a lot of breakdowns. However, there is a co-pay (deductible) associated with each claim, so if your car is frequently in the shop, you may wind up paying a tidy sum for your repairs.

Select Auto Protect doesn't offer a lot of details on plan pricing, deductibles, and other fees on its website. In order to receive a quote, you must call the company directly. We would have preferred to see greater transparency around cost on the company's site. Customers can read Select Auto Protect's service contract on the site, which does provide some specifics on coverage limits for lock-outs, car rentals, and interruption. Select Auto Protect offers customers a choice of three different protection plans: Platinum, Gold, and Silver. As you step up to a pricier plan, the number of covered parts and systems increases. The company provides a straightforward chart on its website to make comparing plans side by side easy. Coverage under the company's Platinum plan is pretty comprehensive and in line with the company's competitors' offers.

As happens with most car warranties, auto parts that are subject to wear-and-tear and normally replaced periodically as cars age—for example, shocks and struts, batteries, wiper blades, and similar items—are not covered under Select Auto Protect's plans. Nor is the cost of making repairs to these items and systems if the damage is due to wear and tear and not outright failure of a part. The line between wear and tear and failure can get blurry because, yes, parts that wear out do fail.

Select Auto Protect's service agreement makes it clear that car owners are responsible for maintaining their vehicles according to owner's manual specifications. If failure to perform maintenance results in mechanical damage to your car—you don't keep up with oil changes and your engine seizes up, for example—you won't be covered for that damage. We can't stress enough how important it is to understand the coverage limits of any warranty you purchase. A company can supply great customer service, but if you're expecting coverage for an excluded repair or you don't live up to your maintenance obligations under the terms of your agreement, you're bound to be disappointed in any warranty you purchase.

Select Auto Protect policyholders can make unlimited claims during their coverage period. All repairs must be pre-authorized by the company in order to be eligible for coverage. <.br>
To make a claim, bring your car to an ASE-certified mechanic and provide your Select Auto Protect coverage information. You or your mechanic can then call the company to authorize the repair. Your mechanic will be paid by phone via credit card when the repair is complete.

If you have a preferred mechanic, it may make sense to check whether he or she accepts Select Auto Protect coverage. It's hard to picture a mechanic turning down immediate payment by credit card but it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Like most car warranty companies, Select Auto Protect reserves the right to decide whether to repair or replace malfunctioning parts. The decision to repair rather than replace a part may result in repeated claims for the same issue. Your mechanic can help advocate for replacement rather than repair.

In addition, Select Auto Protect reserves the right to replace defective parts with used or reconditioned parts at its own discretion. This can become problematic because used and reconditioned parts are more prone to fail. Again, each time you file a claim, your mechanic can be your ally in lobbying for the use of new parts to repair you car.

Bought the Platinum Plan and doesn't cover GPS Module and nothing with the Que Screen (Computer) I paid $2250 for a plan with several loop holes to get them out of covering the repair cost. Buyer beware. Shop elsewhere for an extended warranty.

I have been waiting over 2+ weeks to see if a problem with my power steering is covered at my dealer. Required an" independent analysis." After 2+ weeks report is done. I cant access it. They say the will tell the dealer soon. Report was done 4 days ago. Now report is going to claims department which you cant talk to. So after an "independent review" which so far is secret it now goes to a claims department. They claim they can tell you where to have the repair done now.. A day of rental car is covered if over 7 or 8 hours of time is required for the repair so they can say a rental car is covered but not really. Very slow not transparent. I asked for a quote since then they keep harassing me. Totally ignore my request not to receive calls and start to threating and intimidate me. It is a TSR violation to call any consumer who has asked not to be called again.
