Superior Vision is a vision insurance company focused on providing quality eye care and treatment, rather than simply offering savings on eyewear. Their eye care solutions are comprehensive, and on average, provide savings of 20% or more on eye-related costs.

Superior Vision makes eye care more affordable by providing eye health benefits for managed care and third-party payers.  The company helps improve vision and eye health by providing wellness eye care, medical optometry, and medical management programs.

Services and Features

Superior Vision offers eye care programs such as medical optometry, wellness eye care, and medical management. The company gives access to a wide range of services including eye care and easy claims management. Its eye insurance program promotes healthier eyesight and optimum eye care while reducing costs and improving eye care awareness.

Superior Vision manages eye health benefits for third-party payers and managed care organizations, with the help of government-sponsored programs such as Health Insurance Exchanges, CHIP, Medicaid, and Medicare Advantage.

Unlike other companies, Superior Vision does not actively offer contact lens, eyeglasses, or partner with optical retailers. The company focuses on eye health, wellness, and medical management. However, its vision plan covers basic lens and frames while progressive lenses such as lined bifocals and trifocals are covered in full. Basic lenses are considered uncoated glass lens or plastic.

Superior Vision offers 3 different products for individual vision plans; Essential, Classic, and Premier. Each plan covers annual eye examinations, eyeglasses, contact lenses instead of eyeglasses, and discounts on Lasik surgery.

A better name for the is Inferior Vision Insurance! All of the below negative comments are totally accurate - they do not want to pay, they lie and say they have mailed a check and it never comes, they deny claims for being out-of-network even when they are not supposed to. I had to file a grievance to even get them to admit they owed me and they still have not paid me. They are a big joke!

It took a month to get a form for reimbursement, they sent it to my PO box as I don't get mail at my street address. They sent a check to my street address which I never received. I've called 3x and been on hold 30 min each time. They said to call my insurance co. which I did to change the address, it was never changed. Finally I gave up which is probably what they wanted me to do. They suck.

Working with Superior Vision has been a nightmare. I have had to make multiple calls and talk to multiple people and no one knows whats going on. I was told in the beginning that they could not find it because it takes up to 30 days to get in the system. They could not even tell me if they recieved the claim or not. So, I had to wait 30 days to even find out if they got it. Then after 30 days, when they said they didn't get it, they asked me to email it in. I asked if I could email it in the first place, but was told mailing a hard copy was more efficient. It has been two months and they finally have the claim in the system but up until today they couldnt figure out why it was not... Read More

I have wasted multiple hours of time trying to get a $100-$130 reimbursement. I call, they tell me I need to speak to a supervisor, they tell me they need to place me on a 1-2 minute hold while they find one... they come back every few minutes for 30 minutes to say they are still waiting... then finally say a supervisor will call me back. BUT THEY NEVER DO. I have done this 5+ times, never received a call back. I also tried to contact them through their webpage but then they just tell me to call customer service. Absolutely infuriating and quite possible the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Not sure where this 98% member satisfaction rate comes from that they boast on... Read More

I would advise you to please seek elsewhere for coverage. They do not cover anything! it costs my husband and I over 300$ for a RX of contact lenses, plus 114 each for the exam. They do not cover glasses plus the cost of contacts. I am super disappointed and I will be unenrolling the next open enrollment at work. They allow up to 100 for frames and there are hardly any frames around that price these days. This company is terrible. There is NOTHING superior about them! Superior Vision insurance is a real scam.

Please don't use this company. They do not cover anything. This past open enrollment in 2021, my family signed up for Superior Vision through a top hospital. Now I've been getting my eyes examined since I was 10 years old and my copay has always been $10. Since I am in my 20s and healthy, the opthamologist said I only need to have my eyes examined every 2 years. In 2020 I went to get my eyes exmained with the old insurance and copay was $10 as per usual. Fast forward to present. I went to get my eyes examined, my routine eye exam on Monday 3/7/22 and I received a bill from the clinic for $180. Superior Vision did not pay a dime. They are "self pay". So I call them this morning and spoke to... Read More

After denying a claim because Costco was out of network; they said that the claim used up by glasses coverage for the year. Talk about insurance company BS. How does a claim that they paid nothing for count against your yearly limit! I will drop this coverage at the next cycle.

I am extremely disappointed with my Superior Vision coverage. I recently went to my eye doctor who prescribed me new glasses. The following procedures done were: Eye Exam, Refraction, Frames, Glasses, Progressive Lens, Polycarbonate Lens, Anti-reflective coating. I paid $425 out of pocket for 1 procedure which was NOT covered by Superior Vision and the rest was my cost on the glasses. Then, I get a bill from Superior Vision for an additional $446 for the above mentioned list. My open enrollment through my employer is this November and you can guarantee I will be finding a new carrier for my vision insurance.

When connected to medicaid they lie to the member. The medicaid plan will tell the member one thing and then superior vision tells you something else. When you ask for a supervisor they tell you that one is not there. They constantly want to reroute you back the ones who sent you to them under bogus excuses. Certain phrases that a young child uses they consider to be foul whether they truly are or not. This is the worst vision insurance I have ever come in contact with. Caresource you need to go back to Visionworks.

In all my years of having insurance, I have never run across a worse company than Superior Vision. There is NOTHING superior about them. Half the providers listed aren't in network. I tried to make an appointment with 3 of them just today. All had left. My husband was offered a check for using a provider outside the network but since we receive our mail at a PO box in the country they were unable to send his check. (yeah right) I don't know what Cigna was thinking when they picked Superior as their vision provider, but hopefully they will dump them soon.

I have not been satisfied at all with Superior Vision. I have a $275 benefit with Presbyterian Dual Plus and I have had to jump to through hoops to get reimbursed to glassed at StantonEyecare. They are listed as a provider on your web site. After the fact I was told they were an outside provider. I have gone to two other providers on your Website and none of them offer the $275 benefit. I am now working with Presbyterian to try to figure out where I can go to use this benefit. It's not a benefit if it cannot be used. Sending a flyers to members to promote the new vision benefit without backing the benefit is worthless.

If I could leave a 0 I would. They are terrible. Horrible customer service, no empathy, lack of assistance, smart mouthed, unprofessional supervisors and they refused to pay for needed glasses.

These guys dont pay anything. you are better off without insurance. VSP is much better. they pay out of network claims for the same amount as in network. I had to go to Superior because my current employer only offers this. My previous employer offered VSP and they were awesome.

Superior Vision insurance is a real scam. I live in Colorado and ordered a basic pair of prescription reading glasses. No lens coatings, no bi-focal, no progressive, just plain basic frames and lenses. After five weeks and frequent calls to my eye doctor place, my glasses still had not come back from the lab. My eye doctor place confided that Superior Vision would not approve any US labs to make my glasses. Instead, Superior Vision emailed my prescription and frame number to a lab in China. This is why it was taking so long to make my glasses. I suspect the glasses were being shipped (possibly via boat) from China. Shame on Superior Vision insurance. After waiting five weeks I cancelled my... Read More

0 rating...Beware. This is a scam of a business with lousy customer service. After paying premiums for over a year, the claim I submitted was shorted by 25% of what I was quoted when my eye doctor followed their procedures and called them for my treatment authorization number. Having just called their customer service department and being given an explanation that did not match the Description of Service details on the shorted check from them I asked for a manager. I was told that a manager wasn’t available. When I said that I would hold for them, they refused to allow me to hold. Dropping this plan immediately.

Not sure what happened to others but this is the best vision plan I have used and I have had several others. One of the first companies not to force you to buy frames and lenses sfrom the provider and has contracts with all the major sellers including lenscrafters, WalMart, Target, etc. The entire provider list puts others to shame. Also, the marks above about some items not stated, I am not sure what is going on there but they are all covered under my plan for a monthly premium of less than $9. Be weary of insurance companies that offer a vision plan but it is not really the insurance company's plan.

Without a doubt the worst insurance company ever... I am looking for a way to make a better business bureau complaint .... I pay my premiums and have record ... And they take my money but refuse my benefits .... I would say this company is a scan

Actually a zero (0)! 2 main issues: 1) need to choose option 1 to access my account, but they do not accept 1 as an input, so I cannot talk to them. 2) there are 2 good options for vision specialists but neither is actually in their network. Superior Vision claims perhaps eye vision doctors recently left, nope, not the case, Superior Vision stopped accepting them more than 3 years ago. Major Fraud here!!!

Might as well save your money and buy outright, ends up paying about 10% of total cost.

Superior Vision terminated coverage through my employer for no reason. Superior Vision would not provide the termination date. Employer indicated that cover was still active. Three weeks later, coverage was applied retroactively. Now I receive a message from optometrist that a claim was recouped by Superior Vision due to terminated policy.

I am very disappointed with superior vision. I reached out to find out how I receive reimbursement for glasses. I was given an email address that I can send receipts to. They made it seem that under my plan you get either 125 for glasses or contacts per year. After purchasing my glasses and receipt I received a $30 check in the mail. When I reached out to find out why the amount was so low they told me that submitting my own receipt put me in the category of "out of network". It was never specified that submitting my own information would do this. I have been on many insurances where you submit your own paperwork and claims and was not negatively affected. Better off paying out of pocket.... Read More

Superior Vision is the most worthless company EVER!!! They have extremely lazy, rude representatives who know nothing at all. Most eye care providers don't even take their insurance. In addition, their website is old and outdated with a list of providers. You let them know about it and they don't care. What they will tell you is that the providers have to contact them to update their information on their website. The old information is still left on their website, deceiving people. If you go to an eye care provider listed on their website, they will say, we don't accept Superior Vision. Superior Vision should change their names to Inferior Vision.

I have been very disappointed with Superior Vision in my experience trying to resolve a problem with one of their providers. To be charitable about it, it seems to be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing in a large corporation that seems to have bitten off more than it can chew in terms of its ability to communicate internally OR externally: Besides getting different information from different CS representatives, I have had emails bounce back repeatedly, heard recording apologize for their "system being down"–including one the recording said was due to an emergency (?)–and most recently seen a call back I requested using their own system hang up on me before I... I agree with below. They say they cover an eye exam. All eye exams include a refraction but they don't cover that. Completely worthless product. You pay a couple of hundred dollars in premiums so they can give you $20 in benefits. You are better off saving the premium money and using it to pay for your exam.
