NordPass is a software company based in Panama that creates password management software. It also offers virtual private network (VPN) and file encryption software. The company reached over 500,000 users in a little over six months after its initial release in November 2019.

Features

NordPass offers all of the features you'd expect in a password manager. It has a random password generator that can help you develop strong, unique passwords for all of your online accounts. You can also check your existing passwords to determine their strength periodically through the app's Password Health feature. NordPass automatically stores all of your passwords and fills them in when you want to log into one of your accounts. If you elect to pay for the time-saving Nord Account option, you can also log into your NordPass account on multiple devices without needing to re-enter your password on every single one. The company recently introduced a plan for business users but fees for this service are not available on NordPass's website.

There are native apps for Windows, Mac, and Linux computers as well as mobile apps for iOS and Android devices, so you can access your passwords from wherever you are. If you don't want to enter all of your secure information manually, you can use the OCR scanner built into the mobile apps. All you have to do is use your phone or tablet's camera to scan the information you want to save and your app will automatically convert what it sees into storable data. You can also use Face ID and fingerprint scanners to ensure no one gains unauthorized access to your NordPass account.

User Experience

Creating an account with NordPass is simple and can be done online within a few minutes. Once you've chosen a payment plan and created a user name and password, you'll be able to start generating and storing passwords. The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate on all devices and there's a search function so you can quickly navigate to the information you're trying to find.

Price

NordPass's service is pretty affordable, especially considering all that it can do. There is a free option that enables you to store as many passwords as you like, but you can only use it on a single device. Th free option does not allow you to share passwords securely with other NordPass users.

Its paid plan is $2.49 per month and enables you to use all of NordPass's features and use the password manager on up to six devices simultaneously. This plan also enables password sharing with other NordPass users. You'll get a seven-day free trial to decide if it's right for you, but if that's not enough time, the company also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. If for some reason you're not happy with NordPass, the company will refund you the cost of your first month's service.

Security

The security-conscious will appreciate the thought that went into NordPass's design. Its zero-knowledge architecture encrypts all of your passwords on your device so that even if someone were to hack NordPass's servers, they wouldn't get access to your passwords and personal information. You can also set up two-factor authentication, which is fast becoming the standard for keeping information secure. There's even a biometric authorization option for those who want to be sure that no one else is accessing their personal information.

Its XChaCha20 algorithm has 256-bit encryption, which is the same level that many professional organizations, including banks, use. As long as you're careful not to accidentally give out your Master Password to your NordPass account, you shouldn't have to be too concerned about unauthorized access to your passwords.

Recently, NordPass underwent a comprehensive security audit performed by Berlin-based IT company Cure53. This is just a further sign of its commitment to keeping its customers' data private and secure and it resulted in new, useful features, like its Trusted Contacts feature, which enables easier sharing with users you know and trust in full safety.

Anyone who reads the news knows that data breaches are increasingly common. NordPass offers an optional feature called Data Breach Scanner. If you elect this service, NordPass will scan the web for instances when your personal information—not just your passwords—has been breached. This added measure of security may interest some users, particularly if they are paying for an identity protection service elsewhere.

Support

NordPass doesn't offer phone support, so if you run into any questions or problems with your account, you'll have to contact the company via email. You could also try checking out its library of help articles for answers to common questions. NordPass maintains a blog too, but this is more geared toward general safety tips than the service itself. Still, it's worth a read if you're interested in learning more about how to protect yourself online.
