Founded in 2012 with the mission of keeping children safe online, Securly originally started as a cloud-based solution so faculty could monitor what students are doing on their school devices. Securly is used in over 10,000 schools and services about 10,000,000 students to date. The Hub by Securly is a pay service that brings this technology into the home and allows parents to easily monitor their children's activity via mobile app.

Overall Rating: 3.5 / 5 (Very good)

Hub by Securly differs from other parental control services as it does not require an app to be downloaded to the monitored device, and can work in tandem with Securly's school-based platform, which is free for parents to use. Securly originally started as a school service that allowed faculty and teachers to monitor students' online. This leading online safety solution for schools alerts staff if students are accessing inappropriate websites, scans for potentially harmful or dangerous keywords and phrases, and notifies of possible instances of cyberbullying.

The Hub by Securly brings these same features into the home enabling parental control 24/7. Unlike other parental control apps that are downloaded to every mobile device to be used, Hub by Securly is an actual device that plugs directly into the home's wifi router enabling parental control of any device creating an effective way to keep an eye on your children's online activities and block inappropriate sites. When children are at school, parents may monitor school device activity the same way faculty and teachers can.

Securly Customer Experience

Customer Experience - 5 / 5

Securly doesn't have much in terms of online reviews, so it's difficult to assess what customers actually think about the service or how it stacks up against its competitors at this point. Also, the company doesn't go out of its way to solicit online reviews because many end up being from the monitored children and can be decidedly negative as a result.

When you sign up with Securly, your first month is free, so you can try the service out risk-free and see what you think before you hand over any money. If you run into questions, you can reach out to the company via its online form or by phone. This is on par with most of the top parental control apps and gives you the option to speak directly to a representative when needed.

Unsecure and unhelpful. My son is currently Doing Online school And securly makes it VERY hard for him to work using the school computer because most websites that he needs for school are blocked. My wife and I dont have much money so when we heard that he was allowed to bring the school computer home, we felt releived that we did not have to buy a new laptop for him to do online school. Then he started complaining about the issues to his teachers and they did nothing. So we had to buy a new laptop for him that would last long enough for him to graduate. Also-Is securly even safe? because I dont think its a good idea to have foreign connections that are able to monitor and control... Read More

I have to say, Securly sucks. I can't do anything on my chromebook. It blocks DeviantArt where I go Zim X Gaz and Zim X Tak. It also blocks Internet Archive, where I go to download Nickelodeon, Fox, Nick on CBS, The 90s Are All That, Nicktoons and PBS Kids stuff, Reddit where I go for memes, I need to ask a lot on Quora.

I have to say, I really hate it. I really really really really hate it. Why five stars you ask? Because it does its job. There are lots of hate reviews from students. This is not one of them. It does its job VERY well. I have tried everything. I am a coder, fluent in lots of languages. I use my skills to help my classmates and I bypass securly. I try and try and try, and had some half successes. I managed to unblock youtube, and some sites using [Can't tell or securly would block] Securly is definitely demon spawn, but demon spawn that does its job. GOOD JOB SECULY PROGRAMMERS! YOU HAVE BESTED ME! for now...

THE WORST EXTENSION YOU CAN POSSIBLY GET. This blocks literally everything, including harmless sites like forums, streaming, and games. Honestly, the only sites a firewall should ever block are porn and phishing sites. Entertainment should not be blocked. Some harmless sites it blocks are EDUCATIONAL SITES, and here are some other sites: Roblox, Spotify, downloading any extensions or applications, Quora, and Reddit. OVERALL, DO NOT GET THIS EXTENSION IF YOU WANT TO USE THE INTERNET!
