This was the worst moving experience i ever had - and i moved a dozen times in the past 10 years. If you want a reasonably positive moving experience, this is NOT the company for you! Because this was an out-of-state move I went for the expensive one. The sales people were outstanding, professional, and so reassuring. As soon as you sign the contract and pay half, you see the tone changing: no one returning my calls, conflicting arrival times, no one answering the main line. The day they came for pick-up, they gave us a window of 5PM-8PM. They didn't get there till 10 PM. We incurred a penalty from the condo association b/c it was outside the moving window of 8am-8pm. In addition, they... Read More

Contracting American Van Lines for my move was a huge mistake due to their poor customer service and significantly delayed delivery. Not only do they contract out to other moving companies, they also place belongings in storage before delivery. Moreover, I was verbally told to expect my belongings to be delivered in 5 days by a senior moving coordinator, a response which he maintained even when I questioned why the delivery date had a range of 19 days on the binding estimate. At this point, it has been 24 days since my move, and my belongings have not yet been delivered. I was finally told earlier today that my things will hopefully be delivered in 1.5 weeks. I repeatedly had difficulty... Read More

We have been moving on a yearly basis and this is the first time we wanted to switch our usual moving company and try out American Van Lines. We decided to hire them for our move from Miami to Atlanta. They called via Facetime to prepare the estimated cost of our move. The estimate came around $3,500. We were told by the vendor that the estimate included three employees. On the day of the move only two employees arrived. They gave us no explanation as to why there were only two employees. We had from 9AM to 12:30PM as the assigned timeframe to use the service elevator and the two employees arrived at 10:45AM, almost two hours late. We were told they would come in a small truck and... THEY HELD MY STUFF HOSTAGE UNTIL I PAID THEM $500.00!!!!! This company is terrible. I would not recommend them to anyone. You cannot speak with someone directly once you have a contract with them. Every time I called it would go to voice mail and I would leave numerous messages before they would contact me back. They are only there from 9-5 so when they screw up your delivery and only show up with 1 delivery person there is no one to contact. They never contacted me for a quantity count so when they showed up I had to leave some stuff behind because the truck was not large enough. They scheduled my pickup for a Friday and on that Wednesday the driver called and said he would be... Read More

Moving with AVL was a disaster and a nightmare. Do not use this company. They were late on arrival, delivered outside the delivery window they had, and when they did actually deliver they were late on that day too. They broke my TV, they damaged artwork, it was a disaster. These guys were awful. Do not use them unless you don't value your time or your possessions.

Newsweek ranked the American Van Line as one of the best in terms of moving service. This contrasts significantly with our recent experience moving from Little Rock, AR to Auburn, AL (Dec. 2019, 500 miles). We requested 4 companies for estimates to move our belongings of a 2100-sq ft, 4-BR home. American Van Line gave an estimate of $5100 after seeing the video we recorded for each room. With the same video, two companies gave us an estimate of approximately $8000 and $9000, respectively. One company sent a local agent to our house for a survey, and came up with a $6000 “not-to-exceed binding” estimate. With an additional $900, we were given the option of using an exclusive 26-ft truck... Read More

We booked a move with American Van Lines based on reviews on the internet . Perhaps our move was not the norm but it was a nightmare. We did not realize that AVL uses temp help for loading and unloading in the areas it services. You are dependent on the skill, attitude and professionalism of the contracted help for the quality of your move. The move started off well enough, the estimator who developed the quote was very professional and the estimate was quickly developed and a contract emailed. However it all went downhill from there. One of the first crew that showed up was very apparently stoned. A new crew showed up the next day and they were extremely hard workers and did carefully... Read More
