MassMutual Medicare Supplement - Overview

Medicare Supplement Insurance can be an ideal tool for seniors 65 and older to keep their Medicare costs under control. Medicare does not include such items as coinsurance, copayments, and deductibles. Also, Medicare does not pay for medical care if you are outside the country. This can be of crucial importance to retired seniors who like to travel. Medicare Supplemental insurance will cover all of these costs and more depending on the plan you choose. There are 10 official plans that are standardized by the US government, and although you will have to purchase them through private carriers, they all must provide the same services regardless of which company you choose.

When making a choice, however, it is important to consider that MassMutual has over 160 years experience in the insurance business. The company has an excellent reputation and some of the most solid financial strength ratings around.

MassMutual's claims paying ability and creditworthiness are not in question. This is an important fact to consider when purchasing something as important as supplemental Medicare insurance. Ancillary Medicare costs can pile up substantially, especially considering things like deductibles and potential stays in nursing facilities. With a financial titan like MassMutual, you can be assured these costs will always be covered.

FEATURES and COVERAGE

MassMutual Supplemental Medicare plans, also known as Medigap plans, feature all the standard coverage common to government-regulated plans. There are 10 plans named A through N. All cover 100% of Medicare Part A coinsurance, but then differ substantially after that. Plans offer differing degrees of coverage for Part B coinsurance, and Part A & B deductibles. Also, not every plan covers medical treatment abroad. As the plans go, F is the most comprehensive and the most costly, covering basically everything that is left by Medicare. However, to keep the premium down, Plan F also has a high deductible version if you ask your provider. All of these plans offer the exact same features and coverage as they are mandated by the federal government. So the only difference eis the price the provider decides to charge depending on what is available in your area.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to qualify for Medicare supplement plans you must be 65+ and a resident of the state in which you are applying. You can be under 65 if you are suffering from end stage renal disease or have another disability currently covered by Medicare. You must have Medicare Parts A & B. You cannot be denied supplemental coverage due to a pre-existing condition if you apply within 6 months of your 65th birthday. Also, as long as you pay your premium the policy is guaranteed renewable regardless of pre existing conditions. If you do not enroll within 6 months of your 65th birthday, it is up to the discretion of the provider and they might reject you based on a pre-existing condition.
