Green Chef takes the hassle out of cooking dinner by providing customers with flexible and varied meal plan options. Meals are easy to cook thanks to individually packaged ingredients that are pre-portioned, pre-measured, and often prepped beforehand. Ingredients are sustainably-sourced from the company's trusted community of ranchers, farmers, fishermen, and artisans.

New recipes are added every week for each type of diet. All Green Chef recipes include recipe cards that list the meal's ingredients, cook-time, calorie count, and step-by-step cooking instrucions, among other things. Green Chef recipes can take as little as 30 minutes to prepare and cook. Nutritional facts for each meal are available online.

Green Chef's meals arrive in insulated, eco-friendly packaging that helps protect the food's quality and safety. Most of the packaging in the box can be safely recycled–the plastic packets and jars, the cardboard, even the jute insulation's lining. Green Chef takes its carbon footprint seriously.

Meal Subscription Services

Green Chef has meal plan options for two group sizes: two people and four people. Customers ordering a meal plan will be asked for the diet they want and how many people will be eating. Family-sized meals (three to four people) are only available with their Balanced Eating plan. Users can cancel their subscription at any time. The service offers six recipe options per week in its Paleo plan (which includes its Gluten-Free and Heart Smart selections), seven options per week in its Palnt-Powered plan, and eight recipe options per week in its Balanced Living plan.

How Much Does It Cost You?

Green Chef meal kits fluctuate in price depending on how many people you are feeding, meal type, and delivery frequency. Customers can order as many kits as they want per week. 

2-Person Plan: 1 box contains 3 dinners for 2 people (6 meals/servings total per box).

Family Plan: 1 box contains 2 dinners for a family of four, portioned for family-style eating (8 meals/servings total per box). Family-sized kits are only available with the company's Balanced Eating plan but you can get around this and feed more people by ordering multiple kits. You won't, however, be able to take advantage of volume-discounted pricing.

There is no minimum commitment with Green Chef. You can skip any order or cancel your subscription if you contact the company by 11:59 PM Eastern Time 7 days prior to your scheduled delivery.

Shipping and Delivery

Green Chef delivers its meals to almost everywhere in the continental US. Exceptions include Alaska, Hawaii, and certain parts of Louisiana. Meal kits may arrive Monday through Friday between 8am and 9pm local time. Green Chef does not deliver on weekends. Shipping and handling is a flat fee of $5.99 per box.

Final Thoughts on Green Chef

Green Chef gets high marks from us across the board due to its impressive variety of dietary options–including a total of three gluten-free alternatives–and flexibility in meal planning. The company strives to make cooking easier while ensuring a wide range of sure its ingredients are totally organic, free of common additives and preservatives. It also has an A+ BBB rating and is certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) agency, indicating that the company has a solid reputation. The company demonstrates a strong commitment to evironmentally-sound principles. One downside to Green Chef is that its delivery service does not include free shipping, charging a flat rate per box. We also noted that pricing information on their website was sometimes inconsistent and hard to understand.
