Seriously? No one has posted a comment in 2 years? ANYONE THINKING OF JH, STOP. You will get nothing in return, think u r ambitious and can get it done, they will drain your self worth as well as your bank account. You will fight long after the death certificate has been finalized only to be told they are following protocol that no Payee can break through.

You deserve a zero. My mother paid in for decades. It’s been a full time job. People who answer phone, reading from scripture or out right lie to move on to next call. Supervisors take a 90 minute hold, these are your politicians who will not answer a direct question. RIP mom. We found an attorney who specializes in LTC. I’d rather see him get every dime than let JH destroy another family.

Only open 8a - 5p, M-F. You would think by the money saved by not staffing customer service care on the weekends that they could properly staff their call centers. No. Long hold times of over 10 minutes are routine. Today I called 4 times to 3 different JH 800/844 numbers, was put on hold only to be disconnected without speaking to a representative. I looked, but could not find an email for customer service or complaints. I called back at 4:45 and they were closed - fifteen minutes early. Complete customer service failure.

We were treated so badly by John Hancock Long term Health Care when we needed the help the most. My Father passed away without being able to use the policy.

John Hancock will reject any claim for the dumbest reasons just to delay any payment. I filled out their invoice PDF form exactly as required but they rejected it recently because they want the dates of service typed in 8 digits plus 2 forward slashes and the last digit of the date is not shown fully because of this requirement. This is THEIR form which doesn’t allow for enough room to fit everything in! They also want a copy of the cancelled checks and that must match the total on the invoice but I must legally withhold taxes from the caregiver so these numbers with never be the same! Their foreign telephone help is a joke, impossible to understand and have little or no experience with... Read More

My mother is in claim with John Hancock for LTC and this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They intentionally make the claims process difficult and have extremely poor customer service. I wouldn't buy a anything from this company ever again.

I would NOT recommend this insurance to anyone. After years of paying premiums and then after the insured passed away John Hancock kept all proceeds from the policy. It is just not right that anyone would offer a policy like this.

I would avoid this company at all costs. Their "customer service" is almost all overseas and are pretty much worthless to help you with any problem you have with this company. John Hancock does not live up to its promises after years of my paying for premiums.

This company's long term care policies are a money making scam. They simply refuse to pay out any of the deserved benefits that my parents payed into for years. I am contacting my Mother's congressional representatives and US Senators and asking them to look into this company. I also contacted the Better Business Bureau, and JH has a 1 star rating out of five. Every single one of the comments on the BBB website expressed the same concerns and tactics of this company as this site does. I believe legal action is the only remedy left to us as JH is refusing to budge on their position. Lastly, how in the name of God did this company rate what they did above? Their rating should be 1's... Read More

Well, this comment section has confirmed that I'm not crazy--that this is truly the worst, most unethical, criminally managed company I've ever come across--but it has increased my ire and my commitment to pursuing legal ways of holding John Hancock accountable. There are many here calling for Congressional or criminal investigations and I am now convinced that this is exactly what needs to happen. By any measure, this is a criminal scam, one designed to fleece our most vulnerable citizens. JH is perfectly happy to rake in obscene profits on premiums but if you try to actually take out a claim they disappear. When I found my long-term care facility for my parents, I was assured/... My parents have paid into a long term care plan with this company for years and my mother died before receiving any benefit three years ago. My father had a stroke this year and is now having problems with the company - unanswered letters and phone calls, non-existent customer service ("We will handle this" "There is no supervisor to speak with"). Is it incompetence or something worse - preying on the elderly that they claim to serve? I have no more recourse but to involve a lawyer at this point if their personnel do not answer my letters and concerns.

When my mother took out her long term care policy 30 years ago they were a decent company, well respected. Things chance when you apply to receive the benefits you have paid for. Not only is this company crooked but they seem to change the conditions needed to receive the actual benefits my mother signed up for. Her children had to fill out numerous, silly, time consuming paperwork for nothing in return. Don't let their fancy name fool you. My mother deserved what she paid for and got nothing. Stay away from this company.

I started a LTC policy with J.H. yrs. ago. I now believe this to be a mistake. Lately my billing has been so screwed up, it leaves me wondering what kind of service am I going to receive when I actually need it. Three times trying to straighten out J.H. billing mistakes, wasting my time and theirs. I'm now at an age where jumping ship to anther provider would be difficult. Payments sent out as soon as bill is received are not get processed to my account in a timely fashion. This results in J.H. sending out secondary notices as well as late payment notices. Despite bank records showing checks have cleared, and calls to J.H. indicate they've processed the checks but have yet to apply them to... Read More

This company is deceptive, unethical, and practices bait-and-switch. Requirements for claims are not upfront or transparent, and as soon as initially disclosed requirements are met, they will find more roadblocks to put in your path to string it out so they don't have to pay out...probably hoping the policy owner will die first. My parents have paid for this insurance for over 20 years and both are now in their 90s. This past year they applied for durable equipment benefits to help them stay in their own home (a step-in shower and lift chairs), and John Hancock LTC Insurance, while always right there to collect their premiums, found one reason after another to not have to reimburse my... Hancock is no longer a blue chip institution. Arguably they are a fraudulent scam. The most incompetent, ridiculous, unresponsive claims service process one can imagine. They embark on any means possible to avoid paying straight forward claims. I suggest anyone who get first sign of a problem to hire a lawyer and get your life long premiums and benefits paid back.

I agree with all the other comments- the high rating must be false. I have paid my premiums from August 2013 till August 2020, the year I turned 70. I don' believe I received another notice for payment. Then the next notice was of a lapsed policy because of non-payment, and sent after the 90 day grace period. They have not been writing any new policies since December 2016, but are eager to let the remaining policies "lapse"(according to information online) . I think I have been protected from further fraud and non-response to claims by being allowed to lapse.

Trying to access the long term care benefits for my Father has been insanely difficult. We have been given contrary information frequently. I have worked as an elder aid for many years and can prove my qualifications but JH will not compensate me for providing the necessary care my Father has been evaluated to need as per JH nurse. This is extremely difficult because he is not amenable to outsiders coming into his home. I applied to be his care provider and was denied the medical CNA benefit simply bc I am his daughter. My resume was ignored. My Father has been paying into this LTC plan for 20 years. He is distraught that he cant use this benefit after all the money he paid into... Read More

JH is a strong company, no doubt. But my parents have LTC policies with them. These policies are 21 years old and they have pad faithfully. They are 90 and 921 respectively and have never made a calaim. The original policy says quite clearly that the benefits are indexed to inflation. In 21 years the daily benefit has gone from $120/day to $130/day, however, the premium for this essentially flat benefit has gone up 276% from $1,300/year to $3,592/year. As expected the answer for "why" is not decipherable. I can say it is definitely not right and unethical. It would be understood to not index to inflation or to make it less than CPI/Inflation rate, but when combined with nearly... Read More

John Hancock seems to be pretty incompetent in initiating a claim. They state that it takes 45 days and we're 4 months in and still messing with them. They received the nursing home certification and plan of care in one pdf document and then 30 days later, when I followed up, they stated they had not received the plan of care. I realize going to page 2 of a document can be difficult but I would expect they would have someone with the skills to scroll down. I resent the document and finally, a month later, they said they needed to do an on-site visit which turns out to be a telephone call with another contract firm asking the same questions already answered. Pretty incompetent.

I have been trying to claim benefits on my wife's LTC coverage for more than 8 months and all i get is the runaround. One stalling tactic after another. In the meantime they continue to deduct the premium from her bank account. One of the worst companies I've ever done business with.

My Father has been paying for Long Term Insurance since 1993. He has no chance of claiming any help due to the 90 day elimination period among other "loopholes". You are crooks, plain and simple. You discovered how to legally screw people and you've been doing it for years.

After reading the previous complaints I believe it’s time to get a huge lawsuit rolling! Same story here. My folks have paid since 2003 for long term care, and now that Dad is in hospice they claim no payment can be made until after 90 days! Who rarely lives in hospice for over 90 days! Total rip-off... I’ve had it with these companies. John Hancock obviously got rid of their long term care in 2016, probably because they were getting too deep into being found ‘out of their fraudulent ways . Who ever took over never even contacted my parents to let them know of the new company name or policy details.! My folks are stuck with paying 14,000 so far for the 2 months my Dad has been in hospice... Read More

My 83 year old mother had a stroke in February 2020. From the hospital rehabilitation she moved directly into an assisted living facility at the recommendation of her primary care doctor and her hospital neurologist. They both said she could no longer live alone. Mid March 2020 I i put in a claim to initiate her long term care insurance. My mother paid on her LTC policy for 25 YEARS (since March 12, 199)! That apparently isn't good enough for JHLTC. It took 4 months of me calling weekly (spending many hours on hold and speaking with reps who do not speak English) before JHLTC DENIED my mother's claim. I called and was told that I should immediately start the appeal process - which I... Read More

I submitted a claim for my mom in June 2020, its now Mid September and we are still no where near getting it resolved or started paying out/ the elimination period. The throw up so many road blocks, this is truly an un-ethical company. My father's policy has been paying out for a little over a year, but submitting the bills every month is very tedious an manual - barely a step up from fax machines and mailing paper through the USPS. If you have bought into a policy - try to get your money back ASAP.
