Amica Life Insurance

Variety of Products Offered

Amica offers both term and permanent life insurance. Both types of policies offer level premiums: your monthly costs will not change for as long as you pay Depending on your age, your beneficiaries' needs, and your budget you maybe be better suited to one type or the other.

In the permanent life insurance category, Amica doesn't offer as many types of plans as some other companies. It only provides whole life plans. The company does not, for example, offer universal life, variable,  variable universal life, or indexed universal life insurance policies. These types of policies provide more opportunities to build wealth, but they are not as simple as whole life. Your premium payments and earning potential may change during the life of your policy. Many customers prefer the consistency of level premium policies.

Longevity and Reputation

Amica has been in business for more than one hundred years. The company receives an A+ rating from AM Best, the insurance industry's premier rating organization. AM Best awards the company a "stable" rating, as well.

Amica is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and receives an A+ rating from that organization. However, based on 40 customer reviews on the BBB, customers have some problems with the company. It should be noted that Amica is a large company that offers many kinds of insurance, including auto, home, and renters, and many negative reviews do not pertain to life insurance at all.

The company fares much better among consumers who review it on Trustpilot: it earns 4.6 out of 5 stars. This rating is based on over 1000 reviews. Customers cite excellent customer service and competitive pricing as reasons for their positive reviews.

In addition, there have been zero complaints against Amica to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: another sign that the company treats its customers fairly.

Ease of Use

Getting a quote from Amica is a simple and straightforward process. You answer a brief questionnaire and the site returns a customized quote immediately. That's one advantage Amica offers over other life insurance companies. We've encountered many life insurance companies that require you to speak to an agent by phone before receiving a quote. Amica's online quoting process makes it easy to compare Amica's rates to other life insurance companies you may be considering. In addition, you can apply for an insurance policy through Amica directly online, though you will need to speak to a customer service representative to finalize your policy. You will also  be required to take a medical exam.

Once you have a policy in place, you can manage your Amica account online. Customers can make payments, check the status of existing claims, and file new claims directly from the company's website.

Educational Resources

Amica provides simple-to-understand definitions of term life and whole life insurance on its website. If you're not sure how much life insurance you need, you can get advice on coverage through the company's online quote process. The company also publishes a very brief FAQ section. But overall, we thought that educational resources on the Amica website are rather thin. The company does not, for example, publish in-depth articles on life insurance basics or publish a blog.

Amica Summed Up

Amica is a very reputable, financially stable company that offers two types of level premium policies. It offers a fast, simple online quote process and the opportunity to manage your account online. The company is well worth considering if you're looking for a simple term or whole life policy.

Corebridge Direct Life Insurance

Flexible Options To Suit Your Budget

AIG Direct provides guaranteed acceptance policies for ages 50 to 85, with no need for medical exams or health questions. It also offers term life insurance for terms of 10, 15, and 30 years.

One of AIG Direct's noteworthy policies is the QoL (Quality of Life) Flex Term, which has a built-in Quality of Life rider that can pay out an advance on the death benefit to help cover care, lost income, or cost-of-living expenses in case of a disability or terminal illness. All AIG Direct term policies also offer “full convertibility,” that is, the ability to turn it into a permanent life insurance policy, and is available for critical, chronic, or terminal illnesses.

AIG Direct really stands out for its “select-a-term” product, which gives policyholders greater flexibility in choosing their own term period. Instead of offering coverage in five-year increments, this gives consumers the option of choosing one-year increments between 10 and 30 years for a total of 18 different terms. This not only gives you greater flexibility in coverage, but also can save you money by allowing you to get exactly the coverage you need—no more and no less.

High Marks for Pre-Existing Conditions

Part of the AIG family, AIG Direct works as an independent agency, selling policies issued by its parent company, but also from other top insurers like Prudential, Gerber, Transamerica, and Lincoln Financial. AIG Direct is a great option for applicants with complicated health histories, as many of its partners are fairly accepting of pre-existing conditions. Additionally, as an agency, it’s able to negotiate with those companies to get consumers lower rates.

These companies carry some of the highest grades for financial strength from the leading credit agencies such as A.M. Best and S&P.

Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance

Best life insurance for families

A.M. Best rating: A++

Among life insurance carriers for families, Northwestern Mutual stands out for its fully customizable life insurance options, financial strength, and availability in every state. Coverage available through Northwestern Mutual includes whole, universal, variable universal and term policies. Each policy offers a variety of options, making it easy to select one that aligns precisely with your family's needs.

Northwestern Mutual's variable universal life insurance policy offers the most flexibility. Like other types of permanent insurance, universal life insurance builds cash value. However, you can decide how you'd like Northwestern Mutual to invest your funds. If you're willing to tolerate some market risk, you could potentially grow the value of your policy significantly, which is why they're one of the best whole life insurance options.

Another feature of Northwestern Mutual's universal life insurance policy is flexibility in the coverage amount. If the size of your family grows, you can easily increase the value of your coverage without needing to buy an entirely new policy.

Northwestern Mutual's whole, universal, and variable universal plans are all eligible for dividend payouts. The company has a history of issuing annual dividends for over 150 years. Policyholders can keep their dividends, use them to pay their future premiums or reinvest them through their policy.

To purchase life insurance through Northwestern Mutual, you must speak with an advisor in your area.

New York Life Term Life Insurance

Best for Policies for Seniors

New York Life has been around for over 150 years. The company is known for its financial stability and offers policies lasting between five and twenty years. Seniors can take advantage of a tax-free death benefit, along with the option to convert to whole life insurance and acquire cash value.

What They Offer Senior Citizens

If you have yet to retire and someone depends on your income, then a term life insurance policy with New York Life is a good way to go. A policy will help you leave some money behind to cover funeral costs, pay off any outstanding debts, or even give your beneficiaries a little something extra as a form of inheritance or to handle estate taxes.

New York Life has partnered with AARP to offer a policy that can insure seniors up to 80 years old. This term life policy requires no medical exam and guarantees acceptance, an added benefit for seniors who may be having minor health issues.

More Policy Options for Seniors

New York Life offers more policy options that are matched to senior citizens’ needs. For instance, should you become terminally ill, you can receive some of the policy benefit before your death to handle medical costs and soften the blow of what will surely be a difficult time. Benefits of this kind, however, are not available in every state.

Another feature that should appeal to seniors is that the surviving spouse who wants to get insured by New York Life after the policyholder’s death can do so without having to undergo a medical exam. This provides your loved one with a smooth continuity of insurance, even after you’re gone.
