Job seekers have the initial options of type, date posted, salary range, and commute distance; with further filters for city, industry, company name, company size, and Glassdoor rating. The Glassdoor rating is a 4 star rating system that is determined by the employee feedback Glassdoor collects. The resume component allows users to upload a resume file in Word or PDF, use the online resume builder, or import their LinkedIn profile (which is an extremely useful feature). Glassdoor also offers a free professional resume evaluation through third party TopResume. Of course, Glassdoor stands far ahead of the pack when it comes to the thoroughness of company profiles and employee reviews, enabling job seekers to gain unique insight into a given company's corporate culture and work environment before they even apply.

Glassdoor's job alerts are pretty straightforward. Users can automatically create alerts based on whatever search they are currently performing. In settings they can then turn individual alerts on or off, or toggle the frequency from daily to weekly. Users can turn all alert activity off as well. Glassdoor will periodically create personalized job recommendations based on the job seeker's activity.

Glassdoor has courted its share of controversy over the years. It has been accused of just being a sounding board for disgruntled employees, a place where corporations can buy a positive rating, and everything in between. Although the company has a poor rating with the BBB and Trustpilot, none of the criticism seems to be about the job search component of the site, instead focusing on the employee reviews and company rankings. As strictly a job hunting website, Glassdoor has positive online feedback. Additionally, being able to find such extensive information about the inside of a company before applying is a service that most other websites do not offer.
