Fidelity Investments is a privately-held financial investment firm that offers retirement, brokerage, and wealth management services. The Boston-based firm’s brokerage products include mutual funds, stocks, bonds, and exchange traded funds (ETFs), among others. Fidelity also manages equity, fixed income, balanced mutual funds and invests in the public equity and fixed income markets across the globe.

Fidelity Fund Characteristics

Fund Characteristics - 4.8 / 5

Fidelity offers mutual and exchange-traded (ETF) index funds that track the most widely used market indexes. Fidelity offers its own index funds, as well as access to other indexes. Investors can also search or select several different categories, including index funds that hold 4- and 5-star ratings by Morningstar; index funds by fund family, such as companies like Vanguard or Schwab; or Fidelity’s no transaction fee (NTF) funds. While many of the companies reviewed offer a similar fund finder, one feature we really liked about Fidelity is the ability to search out socially responsible funds. For clients who’d rather skip building their own portfolio of index funds, Fidelity allows users to buy a diversified portfolio containing a combination of four Fidelity stock and bond index funds.

Fidelity Fees

Fees - 4.8 / 5

Fidelity made headlines in 2018 when it launched its fee-free, zero-expense ratio index mutual funds and no-account minimums. Among some of the firm’s perks is its no transaction fee (NTF) mutual funds and the hundreds of commission-free exchange traded funds (ETFs) it offers. For other funds, Fidelity does charge a commission of $4.95 for stock trade. It’s worth noting expense ratios and fees can range, so it’s important that potential investors do their own thorough research into the funds they choose. We encourage potential investors to also check out Fidelity’s daily fee list. Fidelity boasts no account minimums, but some managed accounts may have expenses that apply. So, we also encourage investors to check out Fidelity’s pricing list .
