Because State Farm refuses to acknowledge "sea-surge" which does massive damage to home's basements and crawlspaces, and will only insure homeowners for rain flooding which does light damage to personal items, State Farm should not be permitted to act as if they are flood insurers. I am a Superstorm Sandy homeowner that is still holding a flood adjuster's estimate to repair - which only shows pictures of my personal items. They lie about true damage in order to keep the estimate to repair low. I pay $1,500.00 per year for their flood insurance, ($1,200.00/yr for separate hazard policy) and house is only 800 sq ft., 3 blocks from sea water. Still substantially damaged and trying to... I have a homeowner insurance through State farm for many year. The 1st time I claim after 20 years for water pipes burst in the wall after 5 days State farm doing nothing. I also inform them that we have to turn off the water and it hard to live here without water and toilet. They didn't even contact an adjuster to come to my house. I also have 3 cars. 3 houses and some life insurance policy with them. I am planing to take my business else where.

Flood Insurance coverage, like any other form of insurance, requires reading the perils covered and the limits on claims. I found it very helpful to sit down with my State Farm Agent and spend an hour or so asking every question I could think of. They are the best resource for making an informed decision. I strongly feel that the purchaser has the responsibility to learn and not assume knowledge they do not have when it comes to insurance.

We have State Farm Insurance and our basement just flooded due to a crack in our fireplace wall. State Farm DOES NOT cover flooding due to any type of ground water; however, I found out they do cover claims if you accidentally leave your water running and you flood your entire house (being stupid wins the day). I have had State Farm since I was 16 years old; however, after they refused to help with any of the damages, we have found no need to pay higher premiums because the insurance is no different.
