Holland America Line maintains a fleet of 14 ships, each with its own brand of amenities and travel destinatios. The company runs up to 500 cruises to 320 ports in more than 100 countries with 2- to 114-day itineraries. Holland America Lines also offers a broad range of food and dining options as well as entertainment and on-board activities which can cater to individual passenger taste.

Food and Dining

Holland America Line has a broad range of exquisite food and dining options available on-board for their passengers. On-board, there are a number of restaurants that suits every appetite and allows guests to choose the dining style they prefer. The cruise line also offers Signature Beverage Package for passengers ages 21 and above which lets them pay one price per day for beverages.

Each cruise ship provides a flexible dining program which is “As You Wish” Dining that gives guests the choice of an open schedule dining or traditional pre-set and dining time. Included in Holland America Line’s cruise fare is their main dining which serves breakfast, lunch, and five-course dinner.

My wife and I have enjoyed ocean cruising and river cruising since the late 1980s. Over the decades we have chosen the Holland America Line subsidiary of Carnival Cruise Lines for a high percentage of our ocean cruises. We have just completed the Holland America 35-Day Legendary Hawaii, Tahiti & Marguesas Voyage. Unfortunately, this is the least satisfying cruise we have ever taken with Holland America or any other cruise line. Many of the issues we have are due to Holland America’s current business plan to increase profits at the expense of passenger appreciation. If possible, the rating should be ZERO. Should have read the review comments before booking, now here adds one more unhappy customer with Holland America Cruise Line! Booked an Alaskan cruise of 7 days in June for 6 people. Paid everything in full at the booking months before the sailing date. Six of us flew to Seattle, right before taking Holland America's shuttle to the cruise, 2 elderlies (in eighties) were denied onboarding. Couldn't leave the elderlies in the airport; was offered by a booking agent over the phone that 3 could continue the trip and 3 (including the elderlies) could push the trip to July 2024 with transferring the existing booking to a new booking; was asked to call... We were just on an Alaska cruise that sailed out of Vancouver on May 31, 2023 for 7 days on the Volendam. Before we left arrangements were made that Michael Pulchny, past Commander in the Canadian Navy could meet with the captain and tour the bridge. This didn't happened even though I followed up the day after we boarded the ship and talked with Jay at Guest Services. NOT a happy customer with Holland America Cruise Line! Booked an Alaskan cruise for 5 adults. Was told we were also getting trip cancellation insurance. Paid everything in full before the final payment date. Find out today we did NOT & there's no way to add it to our account. I was told that eventhough I thought I was getting it (I had all of the information for the insurance & everything else we booked for the cruise) it's not on our file so too bad so sad. Won't be booking with Holland America again & the people that I told to book I will be telling them to go elsewhere. NOT HAPPY!

I have been trying for 5 months to get a resolution to my cruise credits that have not been applied because I was quarantined due to Covid...twice! The first time was a mistake on their part but I could not convince the nurse to rest me. I had tested myself before they did their test (both Antigen tests-not PCR) and my result was negative. My husband had tested positive and my testing agreed with that result but I had no symptoms and again my test kit showed a negative result. I find that HAL is tops on quality, pricing and service...I am a 4 Star Mariner who has made a commitment to travel exclusively with Holland America after sailing with Cunard, Celebrity, Wind Star (which were also nice in their respective ways)! All sailings with various lines have pros and cons, but oftentimes, I find that the most satisfied cruisers are those that remain positive in respect to issues that might arise onboard. And, respectful to staffers and service onboard. They aim to please and work very, very long hours to satisfy customers. Rotten customer service! Trying to deal with Guest Relations is a nightmare. They could care less and have no reservations about outright lying to passengers. If you encounter any kind of problem or issue they will not help you or offer to compensate you in any way even when it is their error due to their own incompetence. They have zero respect or concern even for loyal customers. I will never travel on this cruise line again.
