PayPal is probably the best-known brand for making payments online. PayPal was a payment pioneer and is still the dominant player on eBay, for example, where customers can use the app to circumvent having to share their personal information with multiple sellers. They have a 20-year track record and more than 300 million users worldwide. 

PayPal offers credit card processing to businesses under the product name PayPal Here. PayPal Here allows you to accept payments online, in-store, and through mobile readers. You can also place ads and sell products via social media with PayPal Here. If you market your products through resellers, you can use PayPal’s payout platform to pay sellers and vendors worldwide. PayPal also enables subscription billing and invoicing for an additional fee. 

Parse the Pricing

The company has a somewhat more complicated pricing structure than some other credit card processors. They charge 2.9% per card swipe in the US but also charge an additional 1.5% for cross-border transactions. They also attach a fee based on individual currencies for international transactions. For payments that are keyed in, not swiped, they charge 3.5% and $.15 per transaction. If a payment is made through American Express, they tag on another 3.5%. All of these fees are in addition to the per-transaction fees you pay to use your merchant account.

No Commitment Required

One of the most attractive features of PayPal Here is the pay-as-you-go arrangement it offers customers. You do not have to commit to any long-term contract when you use their credit card processing services.

PayPal partners with several companies to offer specialized apps for restaurants and retail businesses but they do not have proprietary apps for this purpose. 

PayPal offers a variety of fraud protection services, however, we noticed that many of the unfavorable reviews of their service had to do with fraudulent payments and difficulty resolving them. They do offer fraud protection insurance for a $10 monthly fee plus $.05 per transaction.
