HughesNet is a satellite internet and phone service provider headquartered in Germantown, Maryland. It offers service to both residential and business customers in all 50 states. The company has been in business since 1971.

Reliability

HughesNet doesn't have a service level agreement (SLA) like many other business internet service providers. These documents guarantee uptime, but that's difficult to do for satellite internet providers because inclement weather can affect internet access and speeds and HughesNet cannot know when or how often these events will occur. This may not be especially encouraging for those who want a reliable internet service for their business, but for some companies, HughesNet may be the only option there is. If you have other options in your area, you will probably be able to find a different provider that does offer a SLA and guarantees a certain amount of uptime.

Availability

HughesNet's biggest advantage over its competitors is its widespread availability. Many rural areas don't have access to fiber optic or even DSL internet, so satellite is their only option to stay connected. If your business is in one of these areas, HughesNet is a good choice to consider. Again, your availability may be temporarily affected by the weather, but the majority of the time, you should have access to the internet no matter where you are. You can enter your address on HughesNet's website to learn about the packages available in your area.

Customer Service

The biggest complaint about HughesNet's business internet services is that speeds can be slow and weather affects access to the internet. But these issues are just part of having satellite internet. There aren't any other major complaints that would indicate that HughesNet customers are unhappy with their service or the support they've received from the company when they've reached out. But if your customer satisfaction is closely tied to speed and reliability, you may be disappointed with HughesNet.

Contract Flexibility

HughesNet requires its customers to sign a two-year agreement when purchasing business internet services. This used to be standard practice in the industry, but many of the leading names are now moving away from this in favor of a pay-as-you-go approach. For now, HughesNet still requires its customers to sign a contract, but if it's the only business internet option in your area, having to sign a contract may not be a huge concern for you.
