Founded in 2006, Personalabs is an online lab test service taking a streamlined approach to blood work. The company provides customers with all the tools and support they need to take charge of and improve their overall health through a comprehensive selection of lab tests and other health-related resources.

Personalabs is a direct-to-consumer blood test company that connects people with labs and doctors from the privacy of their home, using a simple system of searching for symptoms, appropriate tests, and specialized doctors who can treat patients without those people needing to go to the doctor in person. Thanks to the coronavirus, this model is likely to be even more influential in this space than otherwise.

Since office visits are expensive and one can wait a long time for an appointment, Personalabs fills a very important niche market. For less money than your regular visit to the doctor (starting at $39), this service enables you to consult a doctor within 24 hours of searching your symptoms with their personalized checker that matches what you enter with what you may have. Their system then prints out a prescription for a lab test, the user/patient goes to one of hundreds of lab locations most convenient to them, and test results are sent to a secure account held only by the user/patient (not their email address, which would be a HIPAA violation).

If further consultation is needed, Personalabs assigns a team doctor licensed in the state the patient lives in, and the doctor either prescribes a medication or orders more tests. Whatever medication is needed can be filled at the pharmacy of the user’s choice. Follow-up consultations are also offered. Health insurance is not required, and it appears health insurance does not cover their service.

Popular tests include your basic blood test that measures things like platelets ($39), an all-around Wellness Checkup ($119), an aging wellness test ($138), and test for diabetes ($105), as well as tests for STIs, fertility, cancer, autoimmune disorders, and many more.
