Founded in 2015, Firstleaf is a wine club that uses technology to match consumers to wines that fit their unique tasting profile. With over 150,000 customers, Firstleaf uses consumer feedback to customize its boxes for every individual’s palate. The company’s wineries are located in Napa and Sonoma County, California.

Firstleaf provides members with direct-to-consumer wine services, delivering wines sourced from vineyards all over the world. Orders are delivered within 2-5 days to a location of your choice, with a frequency that can vary between one, two or three months, depending on the customer's answers during the introductory quiz. Nonetheless, delivery frequency can be adjusted at any time in the account settings.

Membership Programs

After completing a nine-question quiz about their wine preferences, customers can sign up for a customizable subscription. Customers can choose the type of wines they want to receive (reds, whites, or a mix of both),  as well as indicate whether they enjoy the occasional sparkling and rosé. 

If you decide to join the club, the initial shipment of six wines is $39.95. Subsequent orders cost $90 (around $15 per bottle). 

All Firstleaf club shipments contain six bottles that reflect each individual's taste, as determined by their wine profile and the ratings they submit online. By using an algorithm that analyzes 13 billion data points, Firstleaf states that each shipment gets better as you rate more wines. 

Customers can re-order their favorite wines or try new ones. Firstleaf gives customers the opportunity to preview each shipment, allowing you to swap out a wine you’re not interested in for something you'd enjoy more.

Membership can be canceled anytime and does not require a signup fee. However, if you are not ready to commit to a membership, you can shop at Firstleaf's online store, where you'll find various gift packs for purchase without the need to sign up. 

Shipping

Firstleaf ships to 46 states and Washington, D.C. (No deliveries to Alabama, Mississippi, Rhode Island, or Utah). Orders are usually shipped about 24 hours after being placed, with delivery via FedEx or UPS ground shipping. Speed of delivery varies by location, but typically takes about two to five business days.

Customer Service

Firstleaf offers its customers a 100% satisfaction guarantee: if, for any reason, you're not satisfied with a bottle you receive, you will get a credit for it (minus shipping) to use for another bottle in the future. 

Firstleaf’s Member Experience team is available to help customers via phone or chat seven days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. Customers can also write them an email to resolve specific issues. 

Customers can also take advantage of a membership perk by booking an appointment with a certified wine concierge that helps in selecting the best wines suited to your palate.

I can confirm what others have said; the company operates with the intent of constantly frauding the customer. The first instance occurred around OCT of 2021 when I delayed my next shipment for a few months but the company claimed the order was already processed and could not be changed or delayed. Their concession was to put my account on hold until APR 2022. Low and behold I happen to find yet another charge to my account in DEC 2021. When I inquired about it the rep responded with yes I see that your account is on hold but we decided to place an order for you in DEC 2021 so you will be fully stocked. I have thoroughly enjoyed my membership at FL. Even if I didn’t enjoy the wine, the concierge team is right there to make my next bottle even better. I love the informational cards they send with each shipment. I enjoy reading about the climate where the wine grows, as well as the tasting notes and food pairing suggestions that they include. They have also been expanding their virtual wine tasting events, which is super cool to doing if you have time and friends to set it up with.

I absolutely LOVE First Leaf! I researched all the wine clubs first and they seemed the best. Loved the quiz and all my deliveries have been spot on. As with all new experiences, I have chosen some wines not quiet to my liking, but they were still wonderful wines. Simply gave a 👎🏻 so I didn’t order again. I truly have not had a bad wine, some just not for me. The customer service is even better than the wine, wait, nothing is better then wine, but they are also superb. If you are considering a wine club, you have found it!

I’m appalled by the negative reviews here. They all sound “Karen” like. Firstleaf clearly explains all policies regarding its club. They have an amazing customer service team that are very professional and close to zero hold times. They also provide both UPS and FedEx with the option of multiple delivery addresses (in case you won’t be home). I personally have not had any issue regarding shipping with FedEx. Even if there’s an issue, that is not Firstleaf’s fault, it is the shipping company’s fault. Firstleaf’s 100% guarantee policy is amazing as well. They happily credit any issue back to the account. I have been extremely pleased with every order I have received from First Leaf. Any questions or concerns I've had were quickly resolved by the company. As for most of those who are complaining, it doesn't appear they contacted First Leaf, AND if FedEx is bad in your area you can request UPS.

I am really surprised by some of the negative comments posted here about Firstleaf, some of which is because of a lack of understand on the part of the consumer. You almost can’t find a better customer-oriented company than Firstleaf. Prior to joining Firstleaf, I paid probably $20 more per shipment for wines that were nowhere near as good as the Firstleaf wines. And with Firstleaf, you get your own personal wine concierge to help you make selections based on your tastes. Having trouble with FedEx? Don’t take that out on Firstleaf! I just canceled my account after receiving my first order. They were supposed to ship 6 bottles and they only shipped 4. One of the 4 was not even on the list of wines that was supposed to be sent to me. After an effortless exchange with a customer service rep, I was informed that I would be credited $16.59 on a subsequent order. It was quite bold of them to assume I would continue paying for a service that could not hold up their end of the agreement. Terrible company, terrible customer service, and fair to poor wine at best. BUYER BEWARE.

Very disappointed that I was charged for a shipment that never arrived (FedEx shows it was delivered yet no one was there to sign for it which means the driver forged a signature). Have made multiple attempts to contact customer service and have received NO response other than from an automated reply with articles that have nothing to do with my complaint. Not going to wait much longer for this to be resolved.

They charged my card twice the wine ne ver came fed ex driver stated that i signed for pkg Yet he forged a signature and so conveniently none knows where the wines for my daughters wedding went. Then no one would call me back when I'd speak to someone they pretended to be interested and Concerned but not 1 person followed through with anything They said. And since they would not respond back or answer their email or phone calls I start from the beginning with another staff member who only says what u want to hear while Your on phone.

I'm trying to learn more about wines, so accepted the promotion to buy 6 bottles for about $40. I did this for Naked Wines too. I then found the fine print that because of the promotion, I was automatically enrolled and obligated to automatically pay the monthly fee of double the original promotion. This was not clear at all in the promotion, downright sneaky. Will never join this club.

After reading the advertisements I decided to try Firstleaf wine club. I quickly recieved 6 bottles which were supposedly selected for my tastes. I have tried two bottles of the six and I was very disapointed. I felt both wines that I tried were equivelent to wines that would retail for $2.99 to $3.99. I can select much better wines, at least for my taste, at the grocery store for a lower cost than through the club.

I received one shipment with decent wine, but it's impossible to coordinate delivery and receive a package from this company. They ship through FedEx, though there is no certain delivery window. It changes with notice and it's impossible to coordinate to receive delivery as you are required to be there with ID. When I called the company to try say that FedEx was not able to give a consistent delivery DATE (not window of time in a day, the full day) they told me I'd be charged a $20 restocking fee. I feel as though I have been duped. I work in the wine industry, and receive a healthy discount, so I have a surplus. In late January I changed my upcoming Feb. 3 delivery date to March 3. At that time I switched out bottles that I didn't prefer with ones I thought I would like better, confirmed those bottles and figured all was set. BUYER BEWARE - FRAUDULENT COMPANY - they will ship you wines without your permission, send you broken bottles they wont replace and they will keep your money and not send your wines! I ordered for the first time from Firstleaf back in 2020 - they shipped the wines and 3 were broken, no replacements, no refund no credit. After that, I declined all future shipments as I could see they were disreputable. I never got a notice prior to Jan 13 (the day they planned to ship). I have to be honest here -- I have been with this club since November 2020, so not that long but we have been happy with the quality of wines . Also, why are people saying its so hard to cancel this membership? Its a simple click. By day, I'm no rocket scientist but that click does work if you need to suspend orders for a period of time or cancel altogether. I do have an issue with the FedEx man that sees me every month but won't leave my wine by the front door if I'm on a conference call and can't get to the door. They need to "make contact" which is quite annoying. Whenever I have had a small issue(s) customers service was attentive and made it right for me.

I am reviewing this company before I have received my first shipment of wine. I decided to join this club because I had read good reviews and the prices are in an affordable range. I joined the club on the 12th and placed my first order. The club temporarily charged for my first order that day. I had not received a shipping notification by the 16th so I logged into my account. It appeared that even though my card was charged my order didn't look like it was supposed to ship for another 30 days. I have attempted to cancel my membership several times to no avail. I continue to receive shipments that I don't want as I can no longer afford the wine. I don't know how to stop this and it seems that even tho it is advertised that m'ship can be canceled anytime. NOT TRUE!!!

Live and learn. They send awful wines at a bargain and then do everything they can to make you buy more. Make it all but impossible to cancel and you will have to notify your bank to block charges. This is a bad company. Let’s be smart and teach them how they might have been if they had been straight with people who loved the idea.

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I have never experienced such poor customer or company service. I had called three times to get the my subscription canceled, and was still receiving deliveries (thank God I keep track in my email). The reason I called and canceled was the issues receiving my first order. At the end of October 2020 I came across Firstleaf and decided to try it. I had the same negative experience as others here. I am starting to believe it is the same SCAM being done year after year under different names. If you think about the “business model” it would be near impossible to deliver the advertised quality to so many people. The office motto must be “there’s one born every minute”.

I had the absolute WORST experience with FIstLeaf! I got the 3 bottle introductory offer and a month later was charged $100. no email, heads up or nothing even though i had cancelled my ‘subscription.’ when i reached out they said there was nothing they could do– there goes $100 for second-rate wine.

The wines were good. But I didn’t realize it was a wine club, the one that continues to send every 1 to 3 months. It told me this after I ordered my first box. So when I got my first shipment, the company emailed me about my next shipment..I canceled right away and clicked on the 3 month instead.
