Yet another moving company that will try to scam you at every turn. We had a long-distance move from NJ to TX and paid over $5,000 because American Van Lines seemed like a legit business. Come to find out every positive review or list you see online is a Paid Ad in effort to increase their online standing. They sell your contract to other companies then expect you to play middle-man to decipher the differences between the two companies policies. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. You will regret it. Communication prior to pick-up wasn't great so I didn't think it could get worse, but it did. They will completely stop answering the phone after they get your stuff. There's no 24-hr delivery notice... Read More

Save your money and stay away from Move Smart. Two days trying to get a pick up time for date we are moving. Never got it.Will take your money in 10 minutes or less, and communication is terrible. I can communicate better with my dog than them. Talked to a guy name Chris, and got upset that we had called several times. .Why can't an agency investigate this company. Truly a scam. Fraud on a senior citizen.

DO NOT USE! They will give you a low wrong/ quote to get you on the hook. • They are designed to get most of your money by the time everything is picked up, so when they deliver it whatever condition it is in, it’s on you. • They sub-contract to other movers, which is the opposite of what they advertise! • They have poor customer service if you have an issue or question. • Multiple phone numbers that go nowhere or no one answers. • Any request of a manager gets you put in infinite hold, or lame excuses like “Oh they are not in the office”. • If your items are lost, stolen or broke they do nothing to assist.

Would give them less than the one star I had to give them. They should consider it a gift. Choosing them was a complete disaster and we have never encountered such an unprofessional move in my life among 8 different times. Originally estimated our household belongings at 22K #'s but ended up the real weight was 37K #'s. Fortunately we had a guarenteed price. Three times during the move we were told they needed an additional truck because of the inaccurate estimate. This fiasco caused us to delay our move 1 full day and put our closing of the sale of our home in jeapordy, not to speak of the unnecessary dis-respectful man-handling of our things. Our goods came in 2 seperate trucks with 2... Read More

Our move from Virginia to Ark was subcontracted out from American Van Lines to Boost Express Van Lines out of Brooklyn, NY. All were Ukranians many of whom were rude and rushed. Almost every box marked "Fragile' had broken glassware. Even an old butter churn they packed was broken in several pieces. Small pieces of furniture were broken. A rocking chair and a tv console worth several hundred dollars never showed up. Boxes of clothes on hangers were crushed and even plastic tubs were smushed and broken. Heavy boxes were placed on top of light weight items. Our movers drove all day and did not finish unloading until 1 am. Then they were to drive all night to Dallas so their... Read More

I used this company for a one hour move. When we got to the new property (where I moved to) the truck was not able to get to the house (another truck of the same size and capacity had no issue) instead of the moving company taking care of it, They charged me extra $140 to move the items to a storage facility and I had to hire another moving company to move the items to the new property.. because that truck could not do it.. on top of that, when i reviewed my items I noticed an expensive irreplaceable shovel was missing and owner/driver refused to answer any emails/ phone calls to resolve issue"

I'm getting move estimates for my residence and spoke with a representative who sent me the virtual app to provide an estimate. Prior to scheduling the virtual estimate, I sent a list of questions for your representative to answer via email and he didn't respond; rather, he wanted to phone me with the answers which raises concern.

DO NOT USE! AVL has been a nightmare from the start. They pay for reviews, and I have evidence of them paying to remove bad reviews. TRUST ME! I will take the time to explain my entire story and provide evidence of their scam to anyone who wants to use them. First they showed great customer service (calling many times, answering the phone and emails) and offer a binding quote WITHOUT a visual appraisal. We asked, they said it was not needed and we went through our entire home and boxes. They assured us that going through the rooms, and describing the furniture will be accurate. They then asked for 50% deposit which was $2500. During our initial discussions, we indicated that we... Read More

This was the worst moving experience i ever had - and i moved a dozen times in the past 10 years. If you want a reasonably positive moving experience, this is NOT the company for you! Because this was an out-of-state move I went for the expensive one. The sales people were outstanding, professional, and so reassuring. As soon as you sign the contract and pay half, you see the tone changing: no one returning my calls, conflicting arrival times, no one answering the main line. The day they came for pick-up, they gave us a window of 5PM-8PM. They didn't get there till 10 PM. We incurred a penalty from the condo association b/c it was outside the moving window of 8am-8pm. In addition, they... Read More

Contracting American Van Lines for my move was a huge mistake due to their poor customer service and significantly delayed delivery. Not only do they contract out to other moving companies, they also place belongings in storage before delivery. Moreover, I was verbally told to expect my belongings to be delivered in 5 days by a senior moving coordinator, a response which he maintained even when I questioned why the delivery date had a range of 19 days on the binding estimate. At this point, it has been 24 days since my move, and my belongings have not yet been delivered. I was finally told earlier today that my things will hopefully be delivered in 1.5 weeks. I repeatedly had difficulty... Read More

We have been moving on a yearly basis and this is the first time we wanted to switch our usual moving company and try out American Van Lines. We decided to hire them for our move from Miami to Atlanta. They called via Facetime to prepare the estimated cost of our move. The estimate came around $3,500. We were told by the vendor that the estimate included three employees. On the day of the move only two employees arrived. They gave us no explanation as to why there were only two employees. We had from 9AM to 12:30PM as the assigned timeframe to use the service elevator and the two employees arrived at 10:45AM, almost two hours late. We were told they would come in a small truck and... THEY HELD MY STUFF HOSTAGE UNTIL I PAID THEM $500.00!!!!! This company is terrible. I would not recommend them to anyone. You cannot speak with someone directly once you have a contract with them. Every time I called it would go to voice mail and I would leave numerous messages before they would contact me back. They are only there from 9-5 so when they screw up your delivery and only show up with 1 delivery person there is no one to contact. They never contacted me for a quantity count so when they showed up I had to leave some stuff behind because the truck was not large enough. They scheduled my pickup for a Friday and on that Wednesday the driver called and said he would be... Read More

Moving with AVL was a disaster and a nightmare. Do not use this company. They were late on arrival, delivered outside the delivery window they had, and when they did actually deliver they were late on that day too. They broke my TV, they damaged artwork, it was a disaster. These guys were awful. Do not use them unless you don't value your time or your possessions.

Newsweek ranked the American Van Line as one of the best in terms of moving service. This contrasts significantly with our recent experience moving from Little Rock, AR to Auburn, AL (Dec. 2019, 500 miles). We requested 4 companies for estimates to move our belongings of a 2100-sq ft, 4-BR home. American Van Line gave an estimate of $5100 after seeing the video we recorded for each room. With the same video, two companies gave us an estimate of approximately $8000 and $9000, respectively. One company sent a local agent to our house for a survey, and came up with a $6000 “not-to-exceed binding” estimate. With an additional $900, we were given the option of using an exclusive 26-ft truck... Read More

We booked a move with American Van Lines based on reviews on the internet . Perhaps our move was not the norm but it was a nightmare. We did not realize that AVL uses temp help for loading and unloading in the areas it services. You are dependent on the skill, attitude and professionalism of the contracted help for the quality of your move. The move started off well enough, the estimator who developed the quote was very professional and the estimate was quickly developed and a contract emailed. However it all went downhill from there. One of the first crew that showed up was very apparently stoned. A new crew showed up the next day and they were extremely hard workers and did carefully... Read More
