Independence Blue Cross offers several appealing Medicare supplement plans with a range of cost and coverage options. Unfortunately, its coverage area is rather small, but if you're within it, it's worth taking a few minutes to review its options and see whether any appeal to you.

Independence Blue Cross offers several Medicare supplement plans throughout Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, including the three most popular plans -- F, G and N. While hearing and vision coverage aren't included in the standard packages, Independence Blue Cross does offer hearing and vision discount programs that you can opt into if you want to save money on these expenses. Members of the Healthy Lifestyle Solutions program can also receive $150 per month toward fitness memberships or approved weight management and smoking cessation programs. You won't find these extras with many other Medicare supplement insurance providers, so give Independence Blue Cross a closer look if they appeal to you.

Plan Types

  • Plan A - Will cover hospital medical bills for inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facilities and hospice care. This coverage is free for seniors who have paid at least ten-years of Medicare taxes while being employed.
  • Plan B - Will cover medical bills from doctor’s services and other outpatient care such as lab testing, diagnostic and preventative care services and medical supplies that are medically necessary. Seniors must pay a monthly premium for Part B coverage.
  • Plan F - Less expensive than other plans, F covers all the same benefits as C, with the addition of 100% of Part B's excess charges.
  • Plan G - Covers almost every Medicare supplemental insurance benefit, with the exception of Part B's annual deductible.
  • Plan N - Covers hospital copayments, Part B co-insurance except $20 for office visits & $50 for emergency visits, first 3 pints of blood, hospital deductible, SNF, foreign care, all of Part B co-insurance for preventive care, and hospice care.

The most dishonest company out there. Thier salespeople will tell you any lie to get you to buy a plan. Be prepared to spend many hours on the phone trying to straighten out problems. The directors belong in prison, in my opinion.
