I have used many meal plan services/boxes and this was by far the worst not only pricey, but they sent me rotten food and then they refused to give me a refund only a credit. Why would I even consider doing that? My favorite is Home Chef.

I have tried Hello fresh and Every-plate prior to trying Marley Spoon. It is by far the worst quality of all 3 for me. The box arrived on a Friday and I opened it immediately to put away. The cucumber was too soft and mushy to even use. The zucchini skin was brown and macerated. The inside was edible when I did the recipe. The surface of both lemons is mushy and brown as well. So far the chicken breast I am cooking is some of the poorest quality I have seen and that is just one recipe. Have not even tried the other 2. This is they way they arrived in my box Friday. We were excited about our first order. Delivery never arrived. Called customer service the following day and was told it would be arriving a day late. Was not thrilled as food comes on ice and one more day seemed risky. Called back the following day and now having trouble getting full refund. Extremely disappointed. We have used other food delivery services and never experienced such poor customer service.

I was hesitant starting with this service, but now I am very glad that I did. The variety of meals is excellent, meeting my dietary needs just fine. Also, the portions are just right. Instructions are very easy (never more than 6 steps) and the way everything is packed, there is no waste whatsoever. You will have to chose your meals about two weeks in advance - but that is fine with me. Overall, I am very happy and would highly recommend this meal (make at home) delivery service.

The service was recommended to me by a friend. Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 boxes had issues. The first never arrived. The second had packages that had opened during transit and had to be thrown out. The final package arrived 48 hours late and the ice had completely melted, causing the meat to become warm. The entire box had to be thrown out. For the two boxes with delivery issues, both times the website said the boxes had been delivered timely and in the correct place on the website when that was not true. I have received 3 meals/week for 5 weeks. Weeks 1 and 2 were great. Week 3 I received chicken that had a tiny hole in the package which caused raw chicken juice to leak all over my refrigerator. I emailed customer service and they quickly responded to refund me the cost of that meal. Week 4 I received rancid chicken thighs and shrimp that reeked of ammonia. Customer service offered me a credit of $18 for the chicken and $11 for the shrimp, making it the most expensive produce I've ever purchased (I paid $75 for those two meals), plus a trip to the grocery store to buy replacement chicken and shrimp just to salvage those meals (so completely losing the convenience factor). I tried this delivery service for several weeks. Menu items were a little strange, It seemed as though they were just trying to be different. The third week They couldn’t find my house, and kept the supposedly refrigerated food to deliver more than 24 hours later. When the food arrived it was still somewhat cool, but box it clearly been through some distress. Pasta was broken open, several vegetables were smashed. I picked this meal service because of Martha and thought that if she was associating with a meal service brand then it must be good. At first it was! ... then each of the following weeks it got worse and worse. Week 1: Everything looks beautiful and tastes awesome. Week 2: The produce looks terrible and is rotten in places. I gave two stars because when you actually receive your meals, most of the recipes are quite good and easy to follow. However, this is only when you receive your meals. I was a Marley Spoon customer for a little over two years. There were too many times where ingredients were missing from meals or when they forgot to pack an entire meal altogether. Sometimes a month would go by and there were no problems, but then you would get 4-5 weeks in a row where there was an issue with the order. MarleySpoon is terrible. I have been charged for 3 boxes and only received one. The food in the box I did receive was not very good. I have tried Home Chef and Simply Fresh and they are both better than MarleySpoon. Home Chef ingredients and meals are far superior.

Food packaging open on arrival, poor quality of food (welted everyone), box wasn't sealed properly and meat was all room temp. Customer service was completely useless. There are a ton of these services and one's way better, even if Martha isn't involved. Run run run from these people

Placed my subscription order at 12:57am on April 28th. and by 1:30am (33 minutes later) I had completely canceled the service and received the confirmation email, after I discovered they were going to keep charging me and sending food boxes whether I wanted them or not. I did not care for their recipe selection the first week and tried to reduce the meals from 3 a week to 2 meals a week, but a pop up box came up and said they would not make the changes until AFTER the first box had been delivered as ordered. Tried the service for 4 weeks. The first shipment had a single, minorly damaged good inside. The second week there were multiple damaged goods including a package of fish that had failed along one of it's sealed sides. The third week there were yet again multiple damaged items. So far, not good. I’m only on the second week of meals. I selected a Wednesday delivery. First box arrived a day late, nearly thawed, with two ingredients unusable. One of the cold packs leaked on all bottom ingredients. Luckily, they were rinse-able. This week, again FedEx delayed delivery by a day, only to re-delay again another day. The whole box will be spoiled as they don’t seem to refrigerate delayed boxes. At least with Hello Fresh, UPS seemed to refrigerate their delayed packages as they still arrived fresh and cold, with cold packs intact.

After trying Marley Spoon, I intend to try other services. The food is OK, but at a good cafeteria level. While the quality of the food they send is good, I ended up each week with a lot of disposable packaging, as everything is individually wrapped, in addition to the large box. The time listed is unrealistic, at least for me. I found that the recipes were not as clear as I needed, and although they claimed it would take 30 minutes to cook the dish, we were two people working on the dish and it took us almost an hour. The recipes were good but the customer service was terrible. I kept getting boxes that were missing the main ingredient - like pork for my pork tacos! And they would only refund me for "the ingredient" not the missed meals. So I kept having to run to the store for the missing ingredient. What's the point of a delivery meal system if you have to run to the store every time you get a box?!

On my second box, I was missing the two main ingredients for 2 of the 3 meals: the pork for pork tacos and the cheese ravioli for a ravioli dish! Needless to say, I couldn't make the dishes. Unfortunately too, I'd planned my grocery shopping around this box, so didn't have much else as a backup. In this time with the pandemic, quick trips to the grocery store don't happen. All the customer service offered me was a $25 credit toward my next box. $25 doesn't even cover the two meals, and when you don't get the food, a refund should be issued rather than a credit. Yes, I've had problems with missing ingredients and late delivery but...the recipes are AMAZING!!!! I am not kidding, this is the BEST meal subscription service I have had so far. I can't quit. They have improved somewhat and I am hoping it will continue to get better because about 90% of the time, the meals are DYNAMITE! Better than most of the 5* restaurants we have been to. I have also learned a lot about layering flavors, etc. I am literally praying that they get better at packaging and delivery because I will cry if I have to stop this service. My husband and I are addicted to the quality ingredients they send (most of the time) and the creative and flavorful recipes.

Horrible- don’t order for 4 people- they consistently short you and only send for 2- so you end up going to the store anyways. Really hard to get through on phone. Also not so fresh... wasn’t fresh to begin with but when your order gets delayed somewhere overnight, it’s downright wilted and brown.... perhaps not safe? It’s a great idea. Nice graphics but really doesn’t deliver.

Looking at all the negative comments, I am wondering - are we talking about the same service? Our box is always promptly delivered and complete. The meals are delicious and we especially enjoy the variety. We have used a couple of other meal kit services but grew frustrated with the lack of vegetarian choices. I can't recommend Marley Spoon more highly!! FIVE STARS.

missing some small stuff in package from time to time. Last delivery missed two meats out of 3 receipies (steak and pork) and they only refunded me $20. Said I can reuse the rest stuff once I buy meats myself. Very mean, compared with other meal kit vendor.

If I could give zero stars I would. They were downright awful. I had to reroute a package to a FedEx holding facility because I moved and the package never arrived. Marley Spoon had the audacity to blame me. Even though FedEx said Marley spoon could easily file a claim as they realize they make a mistake and the shipper-Marley Spoon- is only one that can file it (which I’m guessing they intend to do anyway and pocket my money and fedex’s money) Marley spoon wouldn’t refund my money. First, I couldn't see the meals until after they charged my card for the first box and I couldn't cancel it before it shipped. When I did see the meals, I couldn't eat any of them.
