How It Works

Muzzy helps children learn and speak different languages in a fun and easy way.

The language course is specially designed so that children can learn and be entertained simultaneously. To capture its young audience’s attention, it uses a simple teaching method comprised of animated stories that feature Muzzy and friends.

The animated stories utilize a natural-immersion method that is modeled after the way children learn their first language. The lessons work as a foundation for the next program, which builds on words and concepts. It uses repetition and a spiraling approach that makes learning simple and natural.

Different teaching techniques, such as visuals and contextual and aural language, are utilized. With its multi-layered communications and multi-sensory function, children will be able to fully grasp their lessons.

Not only does this tool work well for language learning, but it is also designed for kinesthetic, musical and logical or mathematical lessons. More than 600 words and phrases over different language themes are introduced to children.

Additionally, it has a new feature that introduces writing and reading to the child’s chosen language theme.

The Bottom Line

Muzzy is simply the best language program for young learners.

Its unique approach to teaching a new language, specifically by using colorful visuals and entertaining sounds, is appealing to youngsters. A playful atmosphere makes learning feel like less of a task and more of an enjoyable experience.

I used the material along with a classic textbook and Nicos Weg from DW as starting material in German online to young teens. They enjoyed the story (relatable for that age: love interest, a bobbling "evil" Corvax [mot nearly as slimy as some characters in Goosebumps and other material consumed at that age, suspense, humor, magic, and mystery), though sometimes their focus on the story subverted rather than assisted in learning German. My source was the free Youtube videos that I augmented with work-sheets I made as running the videos again, stopping and asking content quesitons, ala TPRS. I will definitely use Muzzy and Muzzy comes back again if I have begiinners.

We bought "Muzzy" for our children with higher hopes. I'm unsure whether the older version is better, but the new computer animated version isn't crafted very well in many ways. 1) The storyline is inappropriate for young learners - The character Corvax has an obsession with the princess, and makes computer generated copies of her so that the computer copy will fall in love with him. Bob the gardener punches Corvax in the head to stop him from fleeing the authorities. Etc. 2) The pronunciation of the words is muddled and spoken too quickly - I know some Italian and I have a difficult time understanding what the characters say. 3) The animation quality is poor - It looks like it... Dreadful customer service. I cancelled my subscription in 2016. Horrified to see that I'm still be charged. Very expensive mistake. Be careful not to set up automatic billing - it was not obvious to me that I was going to billed -automatically billed nearly £70 every year. Credit card company now trying to claim back for me.

I used the earlier version of this program with my children, and I am now finding this improved updated one for my grandchildren. The little ones are captivated by the graphics, story and songs. Our family loves it in all the languages...
