Gencove offers autosomal tests that can track up to 30,000,000 genetic markers, and absolutely staggering number when compared to its competitors. This is because their low-coverage, or low-pass whole genome sequencing (WGS), approach provides results that are broader—although shallower as well. They collect samples through saliva kits, do their own in-house testing, and display results after a 6 to 10 week time span.

Gencove does not have an accurate number for the size of their DNA database. They classify DNA profiles under 25 geographical regions that include 97 ethnic groups altogether. Moreover, they are able to find relatives of varying estimated relatedness across testing companies. Users with DNA results from other websites can upload their data to use Gencove's services for free.

Although Gencove does not offer a family tree builder, migration map, or wellness program, what it offers is far from a bare bones service. The company hosts quite a number of apps, both made by them and in partnership with other institutions, that range wildly in purpose. For example, their sleep app tries to predict sleeping patterns based on a user's genetic information, while their happiness app takes the same approach but applies it to happiness in an active research program. All their apps require users to log into an active Gencove account.

Gencove's mission is to provide their DNA testing services at an affordable price. They currently offer one of the lowest-priced DNA tests at $59.99.

Gencove has no presence on the BBB or on Trustpilot, neither currently nor under its previous name Seeq Labs. This is peculiar considering that the company is not particularly young, being founded in 2015. Also of note is the overall dearth of individual company reviews online, and that the company has no phone number listed.

Gencove takes extensive measures to protect a user's privacy while using the website and dealing with sensitive information. Although the company does not report how long it keeps DNA samples or data, it does promise to keep customer information confidential except under express circumstances, those being when required by law, if the business is transferred, and when dealing with their mobile app's service providers—who are bound by the same obligation of confidentiality.
