My wife purchased a John Hancock LTC policy at age 55 and has paid for 16 years now, She had a 10% premium increase in late 2013 and a 40% premium increase in 2017 which is being phased in over 4 years at 10% each. Meanwhile I have a Genworth policy since age 55 for 21 years and have had a 10% increase in late 2013 and now wait for a 40 to 70% increase. We purchased policies from different carriers for 2 reasons nione of which was price. #1-My wife is Canadian-American and only Hancock offers benefits that cover Canada . #2- Long term future of companies in 40 years---seems better niot to put all your eggs in one basket , That was wise mive as Gneworth is now in serious... This company is profoundly unethical, and this five-star rating is certainly phony, raising questions about the integrity of this website. You will not find a single five star rating anywhere, on any poublic forum, issued by an actual beneficiary. In a properly regulated environment, JH's senior management would be imprisoned for racketeering and fraud. It was plainly abusive toward my family when it came time for my father, who paid close to $60,000 in premiums over his life as a government employee, to claim benefits. How can John hancock have a five star rating when every comment I've read is negative? My father paid into a place for seventeen years, over $27,000, and never used it. He passed away and I was wanting to get a partial refund on this years premium for my mother and am getting the runaround and no answer to my emails. Their long term policy should be illegal. A person has to pay for the first hundred days of care and then you get back only as much as you have paid? So you are letting them hold your money until you die and then they keep it? I tried to warn my father but he did it anyway thinking he was helping my mother. Waste of money. I would give them a negative star.

John Hancock is the Absolute worst company I have EVER dealt with when it comes to customer service! We have been paying premiums with them since 2010. The current premium they charger for my mother is almost $14,000 per year. I submitted a claim in August 2017, which was subsequently "approved" in November 2017. Since then they have continued to ask for premium payments (even though no additional premium payments should be due once a claim is approved). Additionally they keep stalling and asking for additional information which has now been presented to them 2 and 3 times. I waited 15 min to speak with a CSR. I inquired about coverage details for my mother and the customer service representative was not very forthcoming and we were disconnected before she had a chance to discuss in detail. I think JH needs more CSR support.

I've had 2 major rate increases and was told (1) increases are based on the # of policy claims being made by others in my policy group and (2) JH no longer sells LTC products. In my 40s, I fear this rationale: how few will be left to cover my claims as the elders in my groups stop paying premiums? --Concerned policyholder (since 2010)

Mother paid for long term care for more than 25 years. When she needed it, end stages of CHF, they denied services. So darn sad. Over $52,000 in premiums paid.

My poor mother needed long term care from John Hankock after having paid into her policy over many years.After many months of evaluation , and their "elimination period"'a type of deductible, it looked as if my mom would begin to receive payments as she had passed all requirements. After many calls and a pleasant but nonresponsive staff never delivered on their promise to send payments. We had provided all the proof of her care, documenting every hour of care. John Hankock never paid the much needed funds owed to my mom until 2 weeks after she passed away. What an awful ordeal! What a scam John Hankock long term care is. Long Term Care =========================== I have not had anything to claim yet to rate their claim response, but the customer service on their accounting is absolutely the lowest. 1] I have been paying our premium for both of my wife and my accounts via separated my bank auto payment setup for over five years, 2] in middle of 2016, they changed the address without notifying us, the last three payments got returned due to wrong address. No communication were conducted and both of our accounts then got into inactive status 3] During our call, we got the new address and made all three returned payments to the new address, but got returned again due to bad address again 4]... My Premium was just hiked 83%. As federal employees we are being ripped off. This not a stable insurance company to invest in. We need Congressional Action to stop this insurance company from ripping off America and federal employees.
