Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Enrollment & Waiting Periods

Enrollment - 3.8 / 5

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

Poor claim service, and once you've submitted a claim you cannot ever change your policy type! I submitted a small claim in February 2016 and didn't hear back from the company until I called to inquire about their new pricing plan (an annual deductible vs. an annual PER condition deductible). At that time they informed me that they had the claim but didn't have all the info needed to process it. And, since they had the claim (but no record of it on my online account) I was ineligible for the annual deductible. I think this is not only poor customer service on the part of the claims department, it is grossly unfair to me as a consumer trying to save money. I might be able to collect $50 on... Read More

Called today to get info and Quotes for 2 puppies I am picking up tomorrow. Rates were OK for having more than one pet. Was quoted for $10,000 per year max. rate and had to ask if they had others. Had spoke with Tom, and was quick with answers, seemed very cold and unhappy to even be at his job. Asked him to email me info quoted and other then gave my email. Of course I never received anything from him. Made to feel like I was bothering him or something. So much for their 24-7 "happy" phone service! After reading some of the reviews here and rate increases too added to cold customer service without their email to follow up info on, I think I will go with a different company!

Started out paying around $30 per month but it has gone up every Jan 1st about $3 per month. We`re now over $40 per month so we are going to start shopping around elsewhere.

DON'T DO IT!! They may start with a competetive rate, but they increase it on average 25% per year. In my case, this was the increase for a young (3-4 year old) healthy dog and without having filed a single claim. Huge ripoff....put aside money in savings instead and supplement with a credit card if needed. Your interest rate will be lower than their annual premium increase.

I was so happy with Pet Plan, having been with them for 4 years, I introduced my 2 sisters and a neighbor to this organization. I have 2 dogs enrolled, with very minimal, routine claims, nothing life threatening, my premiums, tho higher than other insurance companies, remained the same. Last month, one of my dogs ingested a high dosage of medication, I had to have him hospitalized for 3 days, my claim was for $1600.00 not excessive in this day of medicine. Within week, I received a letter that my premium would be going up 80%!!! Tho the letter stated it was not due to my claims, it was routine due to my dogs age, increased medical treatments... hummmmm, After submitting this review, I... Read More

Petplan is expensive. I paid $65/month for my 10-year-old Pomeranian (I enrolled him at 9 worrying that he would encounter more health issues in his "golden years"), which btw, was more than my car insurance premium. My premium went up to $82 this year, when my Pom turned 10. I filed 3 claims during the 1.5 years I was with Petplan and none got reimbursed. I got 2 out of my 3 claims rejected due to pre-existing conditions, and I never heard back about the last one. In some ways, rejection on the basis of pre-existing conditions is absolutely fair, but at 10 years old (for a dog), I guess everything would be pre-existing conditions so it was my fault for not reading into more detail about... I signed up for Petplan recently, and the process was so simple! Thus far, Petplan is the only plan I've come across that offers 100% reimbursement. Tiered coverage options make it easy to find a plan that works for your budget; I selected the Silver plan and am only paying about $35/mo. for two cats. Petplan ensures peace of mind through the sign up and initial learning processes. They offer a live chat that's always available; I used it while signing up and right after signing up. During the enrollment, I used the live chat feature to ask clarifying questions about the policy. The agent I spoke with was helpful, friendly, and quick to answer any and all questions I have, including... Read More
