Summary

Fetch provides a good mix of coverage and benefit options that makes it a solid choice if you are looking for pet insurance in Canada. Filing a claim is easy and claims are typically reimbursed within a couple of days. The company also features a number of discount options that can help pet owners make pet insurance more affordable. AARP members, Walmart shoppers, and pet parents who adopt can save on premiums, subject to approval. Fetch pretty much covers all the standard items you'd be looking for in a pet insurance provider and more. The fact that older animals are not discriminated against is a big plus, and 24/7 support, comprehensive coverage including payment of the veterinary exam fees, and great customer service are all nothing to sneeze at as well.

I would never use PetPlan again, it was the best option when I first researched. However, after the first year with no claims went up by $15 per month, after second year with no claims went up by another $32 per month! Don't get taken in....look elsewhere

My dog got super sick and needed blood work, ultrasound, x-ray, everything. We couldn't figure out what was wrong. After everything we spent around $2000 and were eagerly awaiting a cheque in the mail, when we got it, we were shocked. $0. Nothing. It was so stressful financially for us especially considering I was already paying a large monthly fee for this insurance. They said it was because it was a preexisting condition....why? Because my dog has previously been to the vet for vomiting...so if your dog has ever ever vomited before and been to the vet for it, forget about it, you won't get anything back. Scam.

Beware the annual policy increase. We're going into our third year of a policy with PetPlan and the rates went up significantly. I was expecting an increase, but not this much and given that we still have to pay a deductible, I don't know if we'll be continuing with PetPlan. We've made a few claims with the policy, all for small items, and it did take a very long time to be reimbursed. Once, they had the wrong file entirely and had I not followed-up, they would likely never have paid us. I was expecting better, but they are like any other insurance company at the end of the day.

This PetPlan insurance is not worth it...you will pay thousands more than you can ever recover. Many obstacles and headaches to make a claim, all intended to frustrate the consumer. Do not waste your time or energy.

My dog has had diarrhea and vomiting a few times in her short 9 month life. When she was 8 weeks old, she went to the vet because she had these symptoms, in December 2018. In January I signed up with petplan. Mothers day 2019 my dog was so sick she nearly passed away at the emergency hospital. In order to save her, the bill was outrageous. But it's ok because we have pet insurance. They will cover it, right? WRONG. NOT PET PLAN. Because she has had vomiting and diarrhea, when she was 8 WEEKS OLD, from getting in the garbage, she will never, I repeat, never. Ever. Be covered for those symptoms again. Never. Its preexisting now. When my dog is sick, she throws up. Telling me something is... Read More

The worst insurance company Ive every worked with. They always find loopholes in their terms & policies not to cover your vet expenses. I've been with them for 6 months now. I took my dog to a vet for different reasons a few times. PetPlan denied all claims. $0 paid back

I agree with the majority of the reviewers that Petplan is a rip-off. I had it for my first dog who had iBD requiring more frequent blood tests and antibiotics than usual. It was covered but premiums kept going up to over $200 per month. Later he had a bowel obstruction and then at 12 developed cancer. They did cover all the costs, subject to a deductible which ended up being about $500/ year and then they reduced the payable amount to 50%, (50% co-pay) all the while raising premiums. For my next pup I switched to OSPCA Insurance and had a much better experience. this pup has epilepsy and is on a slew of medications all of which is covered and I pay about $90 per month. No problem... Read More

I was very pleased with Maddie’s policy but received my renewal letter only to find out they increased it. Maddie is 2 1/2 and I have never made a claim. Someone is getting rich off of pet owners, no one told me that the policy would increase every year for no reason. i’m So disappointed with this company and will be cancelling Maddie’s policy.

Although my premium went up after the change in Petplan’s underwriters, I am very pleased with them. Their customer service is great and they go out of their way to help and keep me informed as to what is happening with my claims, etc. I have used Petplan twice during emergencies and they have rushed the pre-authorization through so the emergency specialty vets could get to work. Claims are paid in an expedient manner with Canadian funds through a local Canadian bank. The plan asks that you take your pet in for an annual visit which is something that should be done anyway. I highly recommend Petplan. They are worth the money!
