As the parent of invisible braces, Invisalign is known around the world, so much so that its name has almost become synonymous with clear aligners. Invisalign customers know they're getting a quality product, with all the effectiveness of metal braces and none of the discomfort. However, the weekly adjustment visits and the high cost of treatment may be daunting for some patients, especially those who only have minor dental issues to correct. Customers on a limited budget or with little time on their hands should probably look elsewhere.

Invisalign Product Specs

Aligner Specifications - 5 / 5

Invisalign is a registered trademark of Align Technology, and it was the first clear aligner of its kind in the market when it came out in 1997. They've continued refining their technology in the intervening years, and now provide one of the most advanced clear aligners in the world, despite their higher cost. Invisalign braces can be obtained through a trained Invisalign orthodontist or dentist. A three-dimensional scan of the patient's teeth is prepared. This is used to determine a treatment plan and create custom aligners. Typically, the patient would change aligners every week, and the teeth will gradually move with each aligner. According to Invisalign, weekly adjustments cuts the treatment time in half.

Invisalign braces are available in several modes of treatment. Full is the traditional treatment, for all kinds of dental issues. Lite is for less severe cases of teeth overlap. Express is a short-term treatment that fixes common issues in less time. Invisalign is also available for teens. Invisalign braces for teens have an interesting feature, where an indicator on the tray changes color if the patient isn't wearing the braces as often as they should. A great feature for parents who want to make sure their investment isn't lost.

Through Invisalign's website, interested consumers can search for a doctor in their area who works with Invisalign and even arrange an appointment.

Invisalign Pricing

Pricing - 4.5 / 5

The cost of Invisalign invisible braces can range from $5,000 to $8,000. While this is more expensive than traditional metal braces, the shortened treatment period and the comfort associated with invisible braces may be well worth it. Additionally, Invisalign braces may be covered by dental insurance, and the orthodontist may also provide financing. For more information about replacements and retainers, patients must consult with their orthodontist.

Invisalign Customer Experience

Fitting Options - 4.8 / 5

Because Invisalign braces are administered by orthodontists or dentists in their clinics, the customer experience will really depend on the administering doctor. Align Technology, Invisalign's manufacturer, has a few complaints posted on their Better Business Bureau, but most customers complain their teeth weren't as straight as they expected or similar issues. The orthodontist or dentist is responsible for using Invisalign's technology to craft a treatment plan that will give the patient the desired results. Invisalign itself is not responsible for any failures on the orthodontist's part.

My teeth kept on moving back to the original position after trying it 2 times. A definite rip off for me

12 years ago I went through invisalign and had decent results. I lost the top of my last tray so my dentist at that time had me go back to the prior tray. An error I. His part I’m sure. My teeth were much better aligned at the end than the beginning but it was an unfinished work. A month ago I got started with Invisalign go, a short duration treatment plan since I only have a little more straightening needed. The dentist I have now is professional and insists on my getting the desired outcome for my teeth. They gave me three sets so I could change them out weekly. It’s going well and I expect a very good outcome. Be picky about who your dentist is. It does make a difference.

If I could give Invisalign -20 stars then I would. This company dose not care about the customer. I think my dentist only gave me 1/2 of the aligners and now I'm still wearing them 24 hours a day TWO YEARS after I should only be wearing them only at night. Because if I take them out and only use at night my teeth get super loose like they are going to FALL OUT!! I called the company and they said they couldn't tell me how many they sent to the dentist because their LEGAL obligation is to the DENTIST and NOT the customer! DON'T USE!!!! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AT ALL AND WILL HIDE DENTIST MISTAKES AND COVER THEM UP FOR THEM!!!

my 12 year old son just finished a 14 week program at a cost 0f $5,000.00 every tray broke before the week was up. At the start the dentist said 14 weeks plus additional 10 if needed then another 8 if needed. He never used any of the additional weeks and my son's front teeth are worse that before. Every tray broke which caused uneven movement. He said it was my son's fault they broke and we are stuck. He would give us the name of a dentist for metal braces. Save your time and money.

Sent all 14 trays to my dentist at one time. I’m still on my first tray and will be on each tray 10 days. Cost $3000. total. My teeth don’t need that much correcting.

Horrible company. They are after your money and that’s all they are after! In order for them to work, you will need to wear them for about 7 years!

I am not sure who did this survey/research on pricing, or what have you, but it is NOT accurate. I spoke with multiple dentists and 2 orthodontists in my area and only 1 of them said it could be more than $5,00 for the option they prescribed. I don't need a lot of straightening done but my average price quoted was only $1,900 - $2,200. I think the one dentist was just much more expensive so depending on your dentist you go to is what determines how much they charge. Any of them, the dentists, can offer a promotional rate just like the other clear aligner companies seem to have on the internet. If you look around enough you can probably find a much better deal than the $5,000 quoted... Read More

There are unnecessary delays in the program while waiting for the lab to fabricate your next aligner. Competitors give the patient all of the trays up front so they can stay on schedule and change aligners on time. I am currently on my 10th aligner but will be waiting at least 6 weeks while I wait for Invisalign to fabricate the next tray.
