Liberty is a good choice for a reverse mortgage, with a variety of different options available, and an innovative price-match guarantee. However, for borrowers who like to research and compare offers online, or get an idea of available terms and conditions without the hassle of talking to a loan officer, Liberty doesn't offer much information.

Liberty is consistently one of the top reverse mortgage lenders by origination volume in the U.S. Despite this, and their iron-clad guarantee to match any competitor's price, there are not as many reviews as for comparably-sized companies. They also have 6 regulatory actions against them, more than most of the other companies on our list.

Liberty offers all the types of government-insured reverse mortgages that are pretty much standard within the industry. However, the company does stand out by offering the HECM Zero, which has no closing costs, prepayment penalties, draw, or utilization fees. The origination fee for traditional HECMs is 2% of the first $200,000 of the property’s value and 1% of the amount over $200,000. The fee cannot exceed $6,000.

Liberty provides a home equity calculator on their website, as well as a good amount of educational resources for their customers. However, in order to receive a quote or more specific information, borrowers must contact the company and speak directly to a loan officer. Though there are not a large amount of reviews online (positive or negative), customer complaints focus mainly on communication and transparency issues.
