When our cats were very young about 14 years ago, we decided to protect them and purchase pet insurance for them. We purchased from VPI pet insurance. Their coverage was great and assisted us in our cats health issues. One of our cats (Anyanka) passed away 8 years ago. Our boy cat Osbourne is still alive at 16 years of age and dealing with diabetes. Our yearly premium for Osbourne has been at $262.00 for as long as I can determine. Today we received our renewal quote for Osbourne for $351.21 a near $90 increase of about 33%. I spoke to a customer representative (Laura) who was polite and professional. She stated that the increase was due to Osbourne's age and that all health Insurance premiums (even for people) increase as you get older due to the risks factors of aging. My wife and I are retired and on a fixed income and we will probably pay the premium with the increase. Nationwide's policy with aging pets does not seem to reflect the message that they care about your pets. We understand that our Osbourne is aging and at greater risk. It seems that Nationwide has determined they will make it more difficult to take care of your pets as they age. Of course Nationwide is a business and entitled to make a profit. I do not think many pets live to an advanced age and it seems a little heartless to dramatically increase a pets premium due to the fact that they have lived exceptionally longer than projections. Is it possible that Nationwide is trying to make the cost of Osbourne's (and other older pets) insurance prohibitive to assist in their bottom line? The policy has been great and has helped our Osbourne live to his age

I have 5 of my dogs insured with Petplan and unfortunately my dogs have had many expensive health issues. Petplan has paid for everything as promised, never a problem with reimbursement. My only gripe is that after years of being insured, my dogs are now 9 years old and their premiums are now getting so much more expensive that I will have to drop their insurance.

Hi Marlene. Thank you for being a loyal member of our family. We'd hate to see you have to cancel due to the costs. Please give us a call at 1-866-467-3875 so we can review your policies and see if there is an opportunity to make an adjustment. Thank you.

I can't say enough about how great Pet Plan has been to us. Our sweet Murphy has been through so much, and they have always been fast, efficient, empathetc and kind. Kim Boone called this morning to check on Murphy and to see if we had any questions. She was very compassionate and we really appreciate it .

Thank you for those kind words, Cathi. Our family members mean the world to us, and we only want the absolute best care for Murphy. We're honored to have you in the family.

I have 2 dogs, the older is 11 and the younger is 2. I insure both of them with Nationwide. Last year my older dog had serious abdominal surgery and Nationwide reimbursed his quite substantial expenses quickly and easily. I would absolutely recommend Nationwide to anyone looking for coverage for their pets.

I have had my insurance for a couple of years for my dog. I was thinking of canceling it because I didn't use it. Luckily, I didn't, my dog was recently diagnosed with Diabetes and the cost were huge. I turned my claim into VPI and they paid all but $250.00 of it. Wow!! Not only that but, I was paid with each claim in less than 14 days. Very convenient you can follow your claim on thier website. Thank you VPI. It was worth every penny I paid into it.

I've had PetPlan for years, I think around 8 years now and I cannot be happier with their coverage, speed of processing claims and the amounts that they cover and reimburse. They do not split hairs, and I never had a question or a doubt that they were not being fair in their reimbursements. I've had three cats covered through them, out of which one had to be put down due to acute renal failure and it cost in the ER hospital fees in thousands of $ (LA, CA). They paid me back everything, minus the deductible and up to 80% for the ER/specialty care. Then I adopted my second cat, who is still rather young, but he just had a second bout of pancreatitis in his short 5 years of live. He barely survived and the bill again was in thousands of $$$ for having to rush him in between an ER and ER Specialty hospital. PetPlan again covered a fair deal and sent me a check within 10 days. No questions asked. Fair coverage, happy customer and my cat pulled through, thankfully to this great insurance and even more so to the staff of the two hospitals that took a good care of him. Thank you PetPlan!

I think your review is really unfair to VPI. I had VPI when I owned a very ill great dane and they paid out more than they would have recouped if the dog had lived 10 years. I currently have Pet Plan because of all the GLOWING reviews that I had read and am on the verge of dropping them because I'm paying more for their coverage than I did with VPI and they have NEVER paid out a SINGLE DIME! Not even for an animal attack. With Pet Plan, you are banking on your dog getting some hereditary illness later in life that will be costly, but the day to day costs of owning a pet? Forget it. I'm going back to VPI.
