I overlooked the fact one of the packers helped himself to a beer from our fridge. Then I was forgiving of the call I got asking if we had a kayak (which didn't end up being ours). I got a little frustrated when they delayed our shipment. But the last straw was when, for no apparent reason, they wouldn't release our international container, which only the 'agent' had the authority to release. It accumulated fees of almost $2,000. They ignored all my calls and emails whilst customs is hounding me. I paid the money to release it but still waiting on a refund from 2 months ago! This company is a con. These glowing high point reviews are bought and most are fake. They charged me 6000 over their binding estimate. Since you pay 25% upfront and is non refundable moving day you are trapped when they hit you with the higher bill. They are a broker of movers. Go to the better business bureau and read the one star reviews,not the planted good ones. Realize that one in 10 people who get screwed write a review and this company has hundreds of complaints. AVOID.
Somehow (buying reviews?) this company has many 5-star reviews. DO NOT TRUST THEM!! Or the good reviews you read on so many moving websites. Seriously, how this company got so many websites to rank them highly is just beyond me. Here's my story: I got quotes from four different companies. They were the only ones who didn't come out to do an actual inventory (red flag 1 - unfortunately, I knew none of these red flags at the time). They came in lowest, so I hired them. They asked me to send one of the inventories I'd gotten from one of the other movers, which I did, and they gave me an updated estimate (still lower than the others). I chose International Van Lines for my move, not realizing that they were a broker and would assign my move to another company. The company they sent to move me was Cosmos Van Lines. I had gotten an estimate from Cosmos as well, but I had a bad feeling about them because their estimate was much lower than anyone else. The movers did show up on time but they seemed inexperienced. My daughter and I had moved a large chest of drawers with less trouble than they had with the matching dresser, which was smaller. This was the worst moving experience, I ended up having to rent a uhaul and take an additional 4 days off work to complete my move despite paying them a lot of money and having a contract. To start with the company is just a middleman, they contract out with smaller movers to do the work. The mover they contracted with for my move had different rates and policies than what I had agreed to and tried to bully me into agreeing. Never once in the process of getting a quote from IVL did they tell me they contracted with other companies or talk to me about overage potential and what would happen. Jeff 12/16/2021 I chose International Van Lines for a residential move from Minnesota to North Carolina. My choice was based on research showing IVL as #1 rated by Forbes and Newsweek and endorsed by the PBS show "This Old House". Unfortunately, the move was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. I was notified 2 days before the move date that IVL's "preferred carrier", Household Goods Moving Experts, would be handling the move. HGME arrived on moving day with a truck too small to accommodate our furniture and boxes, despite my completing and updating detailed inventory documents. I've had a horrible experience using International Van Lines for my recent move. I do NOT recommend using this company for your move, and am detailing my experience with them below: - The only satisfactory part of my experience with IVL was the timing of my pickup and delivery. My items were picked up and delivered within the expected window. I received my items one week after they were picked up. - My first frustrations occurred with the moving teams who assisted me. International Van Line review I should have read the reviews. As most people have written so far, the process to schedule the move and evaluate the initial cost worked seamlessly: the videos of all rooms can be made quickly and upload in no time. But the problems started when the movers arrived. First four (4) movers were supposed to show up. Only the driver was there. He went through the house and evaluated what we had as if he had not seen the videos or the list of all our items. Customer service of this company is not efficient.
You can't get to anyone through the phone. The company is asking you to leave a message and promised to call you back, but they don't follow the promise.
If you put deposit , it is extremely hard to get it back.

We are so disappointed with your service. A phone call would be appreciated. You promised me efficient prompt service and I have received none. How can you run a business like this? I am in my home and I have no place to sit or sleep, no clothes to wear. I was hoping to be able to give your company rave reviews but can you give me guesstamet as to when I might receive my things? I am trying to be civil in between my tears. I am 71 years old with high blood pressure and I can’t believe you are abusing me like this. All the money I have given you and what happens now?
