RushCard is a prepaid Visa® debit card issued by UniRush Financial Services. The cards can be used much as a bank debit card, with customers depositing funds into cards at certain retail locations, through card transfers, or through mobile check deposits. They are then able to withdraw cash, make purchases, and pay bills online. UniRush was founded in Ohio in 2003 by hip hop mogul Russell Simmons, and was purchased by Green Dot Corporation in 2017.

Overall Rating: 4.8 / 5 (Excellent)

RushCard presents users with a long list of benefits, comparable to those found with a brick-and-mortar bank - online account management, bill pay, mobile check deposits, ATM withdrawals. It also adds in plenty of perks usually not found at a bank, for example, cash rewards, refer-a-friend bonuses, and even personalized financial counseling. Unfortunately, the long list of benefits also has a long list of fees to match. Depending on the plan you choose, RushCard can charge either a monthly fee or a fee of $1.00 per purchase, which can really add up. It also charges customers for card-to-card transfers, over-the-counter cash withdrawals, and for requesting your balance at an ATM. While these fees are less than other prepaid cards, it is important to keep these in mind when comparing to a banking institution. However, for the many consumers who do not have access to traditional banking accounts for one reason or another, RushCard does provide enough rewards and features to make it worth considering.
